Today I’m sharing details about being 22 Weeks pregnant. My latest 22 Week Bump Update for my third pregnancy has some new information at 5 1/2 months pregnant.
How far along? 22 Weeks 5 Days
How I’m feeling: I’m telling myself I’ve been great – but there are a lot of aches and pains over here. As well as mid-day naps which I can’t control. I just pass out! One thing I can’t complain about is my stomach – I’ve learned eating too late brings about heartburn and big meals cause nausea/IBS flare ups. As long as I maintain a proper diet without overindulging, my stomach is happy. As far as the vulvar varicose veins, they are the same as always, painful if I am on my feet for too long. I bought this V-Sling Pelvic Support Belt to hopefully alleviate some pressure, but it will also support my pelvis. Speaking of my pelvis…
Pelvic Pain Update: This week my Chiropractor discovered my hips are not sitting evenly, thus causing pelvic imbalance and pain. On Tuesday my right hip was higher than my lift hip. On Wednesday my left hip was higher than my right hip. The imbalance not only results in sacral bone and pelvic pain, but it also strains the round ligaments in my belly. Dr. B is now using the Webster Technique, which enables chiropractors to establish balance in the pregnant woman’s pelvis and reduce undue stress to her uterus and supporting ligaments (source). I felt a huge sense of relief in my hips after my appointment yesterday and look forward to going back today.
Something else NEW this week – I’ve started lactating. For real. I have been waking with a little crust on my nipples and sometimes dampness in my bra. I started lactating at the same time in my pregnancy with Annabelle in 2013 – it’s totally normal, but so weird.
Total weight gain: 12lbs according to my medical records since the end of April (my first appointment). My doctor says I’m on track for healthy weight gain during the second trimester.
Cravings: My cravings are still so inconsistent – this week I wanted a quesadilla, but then once it was made it didn’t taste as great as I hoped. Today I’m craving healthy meals, so I’m going to grab a salad for lunch from BMuse. I indulged in dessert every night while visiting our family in the South, so I am trying to take a break from sweets. I came home and bought dairy free ice cream bars in case I crave dessert (I don’t like regular ice cream + milk doesn’t agree with me). Peanut butter on a banana or apple is another healthier alternative to this berry cobbler I consumed on our trip.
More About Being 22 Weeks Pregnant
Cool baby facts: Baby A is as big as a Wonka Chocolate Bar or red bell pepper and breaking the 1 pound mark. This week she is developing her sense of touch and working on her grip (she may hold her umbilical cord). She can perceive light and dark much better than before, but she will still mostly ‘see’ dark. She can hear our voices, my heartbeat, and my gurgling stomach! Her heart rate was 140 at my latest appointment. She is becoming more active every day – both the girls and her Daddy have now felt her from the outside!
Maternity clothes: This week I published non-maternity bump friendly dresses sharing what I’ve been wearing lately. As we inch closer to full time cooler temperatures I am searching for cardigans to wear over the summer dresses. I just bought another pair of Zella Maternity Leggings, these compression shorts, a pair of Lake Maternity Pajamas and this bathrobe. Tommy John sent over pajamas and underwear too – they are one of my favorite brands! I also bought a pair of white maternity denim for our trip to Cape Cod.
Sleep: The downside to a midday nap is that I find it more difficult to fall asleep at night. I’ve been using 8 Sheeps Organic Night Cream for my lower back and pelvic pain. One of the ingredients, magnesium, actually helps me fall asleep though. One thing that’s different this pregnancy regarding sleep is I only wake 1-2 times to go to the bathroom – I consider that a win!
Randoms: I’ve been reading Expecting Better by Emily Oster, which sheds some new light on well-know pregnancy rules. From deli meat to caffeine consumption during pregnancy, Emily reflects on her findings from countless global studies. It is SO fascinating to hear what other countries believe in!
Best moment this month: Annabelle feeling her baby sister kick as she talked to her in my belly – I happened to be recording the moment and will cherish it forever. Two nights later Ailey felt Baby A moving and has not stopped talking about it since!
