Today I’m sharing a 20 Week Bump Update for my third pregnancy. It’s hard to believe we are halfway through the pregnancy!
20 Week Bump Update
How far along are you? 20 weeks 3 Days (but she’s measuring a week ahead!)
Total weight gain: 8lbs (I think)
How I’m feeling: Aside from body pains – I’m good! The mood swings aren’t pleasant, but that’s to be expected when your hormones are surging during pregnancy. I find myself getting angry about silly things, usually when I’m nervous about something else, but I use the power of self-talk to handle anxiety.
Spotting: I’ve had multiple spotting instances during my pregnancy – the last two Sundays being the most recent. This morning I visited my OB’s office for an ultrasound and internal exam – the midwife says I have a very delicate cervix and it looks very aggravated from too much activity. I’m already taking it easy because of my pelvic pain, so now I have to take it even easier. I spotted randomly during both of my other pregnancies when I did too much as well. Thankfully Baby is just fine inside!
Round Ligament Pain: I forgot how weird round ligament pains feel – but quickly remembered last Sunday as the cramping set in. The cramps arrived coincidentally on the night before my belly popped. Unfortunately my abdominal ligaments are very tender due to pelvic pain (see below) and I’m still feeling like I did 100 crunches.
Pelvis/Lower Back: I started seeing a Chiropractor three times a week after feeling like I broke my pelvis one lovely evening. I had spent 4 hours cleaning the playroom and the pain that ensued afterwards was so excruciating I couldn’t walk upstairs. Dr. Bennett can’t tell exactly what’s going on without an X-ray, but my pelvis and SI joint are not happy with my growing uterus. I’m taking it very very easy – avoiding exercise and sitting on a wobble disk often during the day. The adjustments at the chiropractor are helping a lot, as are perineal ice packs, a belly support band, rest and a heating pad.
20 Weeks continued…
Vulvar Varicosities: The varicose veins on my pubic area and left inner thigh get worse every day. They are so sensitive to inactivity, so if I stand for too long everything swells up to a size you wouldn’t believe. I purchased perineal ice packs that have been helping to reduce the swelling, but it only goes down temporarily. This week I’m trying a new pair of compression shorts from Australia that will hopefully help hold everything in better than the Spanx have been.
Cravings: My appetite has been very weak with the same cravings as last month – salad, pizza, or seafood. I really want a cold lobster roll soon! I’m avoiding snacks/meals in the evening now because I’ve been getting heartburn if I eat after 6pm.
Boy or Girl: It’s a GIRL! We also have a first name… or at least we think we have one.
Cool baby facts: Baby is as big as a Beanie Baby, Banana, or Sweet Potato. At her anatomy scan she measured almost a full week ahead of schedule. Her heart rate was 158 at my ultrasound this morning and she showed off her flexibility crunching her knees to her nose.
A little bit more about 20 Weeks Pregnant
Maternity clothes: I finally bought a bigger bra from Aerie – and probably need more than one to last me the next four months haha. My sister and a friend/follower gave me some maternity hand-me-downs that I’ve started to wear – bump friendly shirts are great with these leggings. I would like to order some more maternity leggings since my favorites from Lululemon don’t stay pulled up over my belly. My most worn article of clothing is one of the many maxi dresses I’ve collected this summer.
Sleep: I’m napping whenever fatigue hits around 1-2pm if possible. Thankfully I sleep pretty well throughout the night, except for a few bathroom trips. I’m sure once I become uncomfortable not bought a pregnancy pillow yet but sleep with a wedge between my knees.
Best moment this month: I felt the baby kick for the first time on June 18th – it was only a tiny little tap, but she said, “Hello!” A week later on June 26th I felt a few more taps. Now I feel her kicking and flipping daily. She is most active when I wake up in the morning and when I’m going to sleep at night, or if I eat something sweet. Another amazing moment: seeing the baby moving around during our anatomy scan! It was one of those “WOAH, there is actually a little baby girl in there” moments. Sometimes I forget I’m pregnant
