It’s been a wild first week of November in America. If you’re looking for ways to find a sense of peace today, here are my Calming Friday Favorites.
We made it to Friday! How crazy has this week been? After such a calm October, it’s no surprise November decided to give us a run for our money. Truthfully, I’m channeling all of the CALM I can to stay grounded and spread kindness to those around me. It’s the self-talk that’s really keeping me zen – I swear!
I can feel the tension coming through the screen of social media though and it doesn’t feel good. If you’re looking for tranquil feelings, here are my Calming Friday Favorites.
Listen to the Calming Sounds of the Season
It isn’t too early to play your favorite festive song if it’s in the name of joy. Christmas music has always been one of the ways I find peace during hectic times of my life – no matter the time of year. We are just a month and a half away from the holidays, so turn up the tunes and relax.
Annabelle and I had to shoot some holiday content (coming next week!) this past Sunday. We listened to Christmas music while taking pictures and there was so much joy in the room!
Cook Your Favorite Meal
Sometimes when I’m feeling particularly stressed about life I cook my favorite meal. Chicken Parmesan and Enchiladas are two easy recipes I love to cook because neither require a recipe or ton of work. Plus, my family likes to eat them too, so I won’t end up inhaling the entire dish.
MOVE!
Dance, go for a walk, practice yoga, move your body! One of my favorite ways to calm down is to do anything but sit in one place. Exercise is one of the most natural remedies for anxiety and stress. If you’re someone who can’t be left alone with their thoughts, then turn on a workout class or dance to loud music – it’s where you can always find a release!
Go Shopping
I’m not going to lie – sometimes retail therapy is the best therapy when I’m feeling stressed or uneasy. I never spend a lot of money if I’m shopping as a distraction – and most of the time I’ll buy something for my family and not myself. However, on the off chance I go shopping for ME, I’ll purchase a cup of my favorite coffee or order a new pair of camp socks online.
This week while maintaining a sense of calm I bought a few things for our home. Check them out below:

Unplug and Plug-In
The news is one of the most stress inducing programs in existence. Unplug from the news on t.v. and social media and plug-in to something fictional and mindless. Books and movies are an easy way to lose yourself for a few hours. See what I’m reading/watching lately here.
Don’t forget that many channels are streaming holiday programs. Netflix’s Christmas movies or Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas is sure to provide a great distraction from the real world. These movies are so uplifting and always have a happy ending.
