Today I’m sharing what I’m loving lately from May 2021. We had a busy month with babies being born, a vineyard wedding, a trip to Maine, Mother’s Day, and oh… we finally announced we are having a baby. There was definitely a lull in new blog posts here, but I was battling some serious first trimester fatigue. Now that I’m feeling a bit more energetic, let’s take a look at some of my favorite things from May.
Summer Staples
The weather in New England is always something to talk about during the month of May. One minute it’s 40 degrees and raining, the next it’s sunny, humid, and 90. I like to buy a few warm weather staple items before summer arrives, but it’s hard to buy clothes when you don’t know it they’re going to fit after a few weeks. My body is developing more slowly this pregnancy, so I only bought items that can withstand any sudden bump formations. Here are some items I have added to my summer wardrobe.
I’m currently updating this post from last year with more summer wardrobe staples. Keep an eye out for summer styles I’m wearing on repeat in the next two weeks.
What I’m Loving Lately from Around the Web
- One thing I randomly crave – SALAD. Here are 24 Salads I’d Like to Make This Summer.
- Do you love peonies? Check out this post! I was born with a brown thumb so I am the last person to ever ask for gardening advice.
- So many truths here – because even though some parents may seem like superheroes, they really aren’t.
- I’ve always loved Kate Winslet and enjoyed reading a little bit about her after finishing “Mare of Easttown.” Which was an awesome show by the way.
- Last night I learned to paint with Alexa McCormack through Brush BeCAUSE. If you haven’t seen her work, you must look NOW!
Sun Protective Styles for Summer
I’m always blown away every summer when I find new stylish sun protective gear. Ever since I was diagnosed with skin cancer I can’t help but want to protect my body from head to toe. I have the sunscreen covered, but clothes can be difficult. Have you ever seen those sun protective hooded body suits though? They look hot and uncomfortable. Thankfully Coolibar and Cabana Life released new stylish sun protective styles just in time for summer.
Exploring Maine Together
While visiting the Spruce Point Inn last week, Brandon and I made a point to explore Boothbay Harbor and the surrounding towns in coastal Maine. We haven’t been able to sneak away, just us two, in a long time – so this was a much needed adventure. Life can get so busy when you have jobs + kids + home renovation projects. Toss in first trimester woes and anxiety – you won’t believe how easy it is to drift apart from your spouse.
I’m so happy to say that Maine was exactly what we needed – a peaceful place without any distractions to just be US. We laughed A LOT, talked about buying a beach house in Maine (pipe dreams), and what it will be like having a third child (scary). Another fun thing that happened: lots of attempted tripod + photo timer photos. I really missed Annabelle’s photography skills during these moments.
Here’s to hoping you have a wonderful weekend! I’ll be back on Sunday with a special First Trimester Recap post (read more of my pregnancy posts here).
