There was once a time when Friday Favorites appeared as a weekly installment on Caitlin Houston Blog. However, Instagram stories took the place of CHB as a platform to share my Friday Favorites on a regular basis. Life has been too busy to update my live Instagram stories as much as usual, so today I’m throwing it back to sharing my Friday Favorites here. Enjoy!
I love cooking in the fall so much more than during the warmer months of the year. I have just started making some of our family’s best fall recipes – like pumpkin applesauce muffins! These three ingredient pumpkin muffins are a household favorite – something we love so much we sometimes make them once a week!
I also baked Apple Crisp with a new recipe for the first time this season! My Dad brings us fresh apples from the orchard up the street every Sunday and I’ve been excited to make my favorite fall dessert. However, my Grandma Mary’s famous recipe calls for a lot of butter – and I have been trying to avoid a lot of dairy. I also can’t digest oats, so I removed them from the dish (my Grandma’s doesn’t have any either). Enjoy my dairy free and oat free Apple Crisp recipe!
Working from Home
Even though I’m only at my bedroom office desk for a few hours a day, I’m SO happy to have it back! Brandon took over our bedroom mini home office when the pandemic closed down his office. The space isn’t anything special, but my comfortable chair, candles, and new Top Down Bottom Up Cellular Shades are so much better than the blaring t.v. and kids playing as I sit on the couch.
We have had these amazingTop Down Bottom Up Cellular Shades by @comfortexhq from @CoastalConcepts for a few months now. Not only can you open the shades from the bottom, but also from the top! This way my love of natural light is not sacrificed when we want privacy from the world peeking inside our home.
And…Working a Second Job
I never thought I would be working an additional part time job just a few months before the baby is born – but here I am doing it. I accepted a position for a non-profit in our town last month – it was an offer I couldn’t turn down. I’ll be working to beautify our downtown, as well as engaging businesses and community leaders to enhance the vitality of our downtown through economic development and more! Last weekend was Celebrate on Center, a smaller scale of our town’s annual fall celebration. I’m beyond thrilled to have been a part of the event (even though I only started working a few weeks ago). I truly love the town where I grew up and now live – and to be a part of something like this is a dream come true.
Outdoor Halloween Home Decor
Last night Brandon and the girls decorated the outside of the house for Halloween. I love the simple decorations – especially since Halloween isn’t necessary my favorite time of year. The spider webs, ghosts, and pumpkins have been making an appearance on our home for three years now! Do you decorate for Halloween?
My Favorite Recent Purchases
I am definitely shopping a lot more lately than I ever have because nothing fits my growing baby bump in my closet. Here are some of my recent purchases – a few non-maternity fall must haves, the most comfortable Birkenstocks ever, and a couple maternity dresses.
