Enjoy my latest installment of Random Things: February 2023. From random things on my mind to what I’m reading or watching, here is a peak at my February.
February is the shortest month of the year – and definitely already feels like it is moving a lot quicker than January. Life lately has been interesting since I’ve put my blog on the back burner. I am so fortunate to stay home with my youngest, working for myself on CHB, and LOVE all of our time together. But if I’m being honest, I do miss having a few hours to write alone while she was with our babysitter.
Working on CHB is my little corner in life where I am only responsible for me. If I want to be there, I have wake up early in the morning or stay up late at night. I know this period of life will soon be nothing but a blurry memory. SO, like my therapist always tells me, I am acknowledging this is just a season. Even if it is different and hard, I’m appreciating and embracing this season of life right now.
7 Random Things on My Mind
- Trader Joe’s new Ketchup flavored seasoning is so delicious. I can’t stop eating it sprinkled over popcorn.
- Arbor tried actual ketchup and she could eat it all day every day if we let her.
- I am a few weeks late BUT the Gossip Girl reboot on HBO Max has been cancelled. And I’m not ok. I really liked that show!
- Speaking of shows, The Last of Us on HBO is pretty good. There are lots of mixed reviews – mostly positive – about this video game based show set in a post-apocalyptic America where a disgusting brain infection is killing off humanity (and growing underground). I’ve only watched the first three episodes and had to close my eyes a few times – its as suspenseful as The Walking Dead but the plot line and acting is MUCH better.
- Arbor has a new trick – she puts her hand over her mouth when she is in shock. My Aunt taught her how to do it first while reading a book that makes sounds when you pet the animals. But now, she does it when appropriate (like when I told the family she was trying to color on the wall with a marker – she covered her mouth like, “WHO? ME?!”).
- All of the Christmas and winter decor is finally put away in our home – except for Valentine’s Day decorations. Now begins the process finding all of my neutral/spring home decor. I never learn…before I decorate for fall every year I try to organize the neutral home decor, but I always end up squirrel-ing it away somewhere in the basement.
- We have a few home projects/improvements planned for 2023. The most important is landscaping – but that won’t start until we find a company and it gets warmer. The second project is regarding our family room. It’s the least used room in our house even though it has the biggest couch for movie night! We recently added recessed lighting that’s made a huge difference to the space. Now we are on the hunt for either two swivel chairs OR plans for a window seat between the bookcase. On My Radar
- Apparently skinny brows are coming back … which is great news since I have never been able to grow mine out. Skinny brows are one of 12 Nostalgic Beauty Trends Making a Comeback.
- Speaking of returning trends – or maybe this one never left. This article is so good and really explains how “Coastal Grandma” and “Tenniscore” aren’t really trends , but extensions of an American style that’s always been there.
- Want to know more about American Ivy? Listen to Avery Trufelman, the podcaster behind fashion-focused show, Articles of Interest.
- Another great article, The Dark and Twisted Return of Prep, shining light on the not so bright history of some of the ‘preppiest uniforms’ as well as applauding some preppy fashion icons (like Princess Diana). “They use these extremely familiar clothes in ways that feel unusual, exciting, and provocative. They challenge us to see what feels almost tired as special and individual, as the product of choice rather than peer pressure.”
- Eyeing the Deliphine Nap Skirt in Navy as I think it could be worn so many ways this spring/summer.
- I just restocked my favorite 3-in-1 Eye Renewal. It is pricey ($70) but lasts a whole year! Note: If you sign up for their mailing list you can get 15% off.
- I’m hunting for nice date night/girls night tops, like this blouse in black or white (ecru). I can’t decide which color – what do you like best?
- Mom Hustle – it’s SO real. But also, has it been worsened by our culture/society? I loved this podcast from You, The Mother with Ahuva Hershkop (Burnout Coach for Working Moms)
Random Things from Life Lately in February 2023
A few bits of life lately: Arbor’s love for ketchup in action, Ailey’s 100th day of school costume, mystery reader moment, Annabelle and Ailey’s scavenger hunt, and Annabelle dressed as Stacey Mcgill from The Babysitter’s Club. Plus, my new favorite popcorn seasoning and a very skeptical baby on a warm February day. Last – me, my sister, and my Dad on his 70th birthday.
