Sharing a little life lately update with what we have been doing and what will be up to during March in 2024 on Caitlin Houston Blog.
Life Lately – March 2024
We are so close to spring I can see it’s green hair poking out from the mulch in our flower beds. I can also feel it as my allergies wake up a little more each day. Spring is an emotional season as the world wakes up from a long winter’s nap. Fresh beginnings, rebirth, rejuvenation, and transformation can be found in both nature and our daily lives during this season. Instead of using January as the start of a new year, some people use the first day of Spring as a literal springboard into a new chapter.
The first day of Spring is March 19. I would be lying if I said I am excited for the season to begin. The anticipation of spring actually gives me anxiety. Over the last four years, A LOT happens from March-June in my life – usually unfortunate events directly affecting my mental health. The pandemic, long haul sickness, loss, pregnancy, postpartum depression, and actual depression are six things that come to mind from the past four spring seasons.
My therapist would tell me to quit associating a season with some of my most difficult chapters in life – and she is right. Life can’t repeat itself, especially if we are consciously aware of how we are living it. I am mentally fighting any doubts or voices softly whispering, “This spring will be just like the others.” Instead, I remember “If there’s one thing that’s true, it’s this: the universe is always changing. It is constant, continual evolution” (Journey to the Heart, by Melody Beattie).
Swim, Dance, Costco Hot Dogs, and More in March
March is the end of toddler tumble time (Arbor loved it) and the beginning of swim lessons. Our girls couldn’t be more excited to attend the Goldfish Swim School in Hamden for the next two months. I signed Arbor up for the class with a parent companion so we will be spending a little one-on-one time in the pool each week. She was initially signed up for the class sans parents, but since this is her first experience with lessons I wanted to be there to support her. Annabelle and Ailey’s swim class is much different – no parents and more challenging!
Other fun moments in March have included a Costco trip with post-shopping hot dog (Arbor’s favorite), Girl’s Night Out at Glow, pizza at Christo’s, a Taylor Swift tribute band show, dinner ala Brandon. And so much laundry. Why does it feel the laundry pile never gets smaller no matter how many loads we wash/dry?
New from Sezane March 2024
Ever since a certain husband shrunk my black Le Crop I have been saving to buy a denim pair – and I’m so glad I did. These may be my new favorite jeans (even though I wish they were either 1 inch shorter). I have also added the Malcom t-shirt which has a soft V-neck and a gray Conrad t-shirt. All of their t-shirts are made with organic cotton and SO soft.
One more item to find its way to my closet is the Scott Trench Coat. I have been hunting for a classic trench for years and THIS IS THE ONE! The Scott is fitted and comes with a belt, while the Sezane Clyde is oversized and looks best worn open. I steer clear of outerwear like that because I have a small frame. I will be sure to pass this special trench along to my girls someday.
What’s Coming Up – March 2024
Dance: The girls’ first dance competition is in a few weekends and we are all so excited!!! Dance competition season is definitely chaotic and stressful – but more fun than anything else. I look forward to the hustle and bustle of makeup, hair and costumes, and watching my daughters transform on stage.
Podcast: The second episode of Room 4 Four also drops this month (March 18th)! Working on this show fills a little piece of my soul with so much joy as it’s been a dream I’ve wished to come true. Before April comes, we will have recorded FOUR more episodes for your listening pleasure. Did you miss Episode 1? Listen and watch here!
