There are just a few days left of this month, so it’s time to share a bit of our life lately from June 2021. This month has been jam packed with events so it’s flown by quickly: last day of school, Father’s Day, a family trip to Georgia, and the girls’ dance recital. Here’s a sneak peek at our life lately from June 2021.
The Last Day of First Grade and Preschool
I always become emotional on the first and last day of school for my daughters. There is always a little bit of excitement, mixed with sentimentality, as my daughters begin/end another chapter of their lives. Annabelle completed first grade with the same emotions as her Mama, shedding a few tears on her last day. Ailey was just as sad to say goodbye to her preschool friends for the summer!
This was both of my daughters’ first “last day of schools” since the previous year we were in quarantine. Overall, the girls were thankful for wonderful and fun school years (with only a few days of distance learning). We had a little Happy Summer party with the girls’ friends the day after school ended – it was a great kickoff to two months of fun! Ailey will be attending Pre-K at the same school in the fall while Annabelle will be going to second grade!
Father’s Day 2021
Every Father’s Day the Dads compete in a golf tournament while the Moms prepare a post-golf cookout. This year we opted to have it catered since my sister has a newborn, my other sister has a toddler, and I’m pregnant (with no desire to cook for a crowd). We ordered BBQ from a favorite local restaurant, Pig Rig, and prepared our own sides/dessert. It was a casual and easy celebration for Father’s Day. The best part: the cousins all got along playing in my sister’s backyard with a blow-up pool and wagon.
We actually celebrated Father’s Day all weekend long. It started with a triple date on Friday night and a family trip to The Place on Saturday. I haven’t been to “The Place” since I was a little girl; the outdoor casual seafood restaurant looked exactly as I remember it. The open fire grilled food was just as delicious! The Place was my Grandma Mary’s favorite restaurant, so I know my Dad truly enjoyed our family dinner.
More Life Lately from June 2021
We took our first trip to Georgia since 2019 to visit family this month. In case you’re new around here, we used to live in Georgia (and my husband’s family lives in the south!). It was so nice to see everyone as our trips last year were cancelled due to the pandemic! Here are some snippets from our visit.

What’s in my Shopping Cart
I shopped a little bit more during June to take advantage of sales to stock the girls’ summer wardrobes. I also bought a few things on sale to wear throughout my pregnancy. These sandals finally went on sale last week, so I picked them up to add to my summer staples. Another item I know I’ll wear for years to come is this bestselling swimsuit – it’s non maternity but works well with a growing belly!
Grayson gifted me their new Artist Short Sleeve Tumbled Linen dress (affiliate) in Hibiscus. This dress is great for summertime as it’s lightweight and breezy – also spacious enough for a pregnant gal. Use code CAITLINHOUSTON for $25 off your purchase!
