Weekend Recap – June 2019

Fresh air is good for the soul – and we spent a lot of time in it this weekend. It’s always hard to get back into life’s routine after an amazing vacation, but somehow we did it. Enjoy our family weekend recap.

Friday

Ever since we moved into our house, I’ve dreamt of sitting on the deck for a Friday night dinner. We’ve been working to complete our patio set for a few months – a chair here, an umbrella there, and dinnerware in between. Brandon and I decided we’d reward ourselves on Friday for making it through the crazy week by making grilled pizzas. Annabelle and Ailey’s reward would be S’mores by the fire pit.

Want my grilled pizza recipe? You’ll have to wait because I don’t have one. It slipped my mind to pick up a few crucial supplies for cooking pizza on the grill, so we burnt the crust. Next time will be better when I have cornmeal and a new pizza stone.

After dinner we made Smores around the fire pit. Annabelle and Ailey have made Smores in the past, but never at our house. It was such a memorable night!

Saturday

The weather was absolutely gorgeous on Saturday – the perfect New England summer day. We went to Harvey Beach in Old Saybrook, a small public beach with bathrooms, a playground, and food truck. My sisters, niece, my Mom, and our family splashed in the tide pools, collected shells, and relaxed.

Harvey Beach is ideal for kids and relaxing, or floating if you show up before the tide goes out. My family and I had the best day, even though Ailey cut her foot on a shell. If you ever plan to visit, make sure the family has water shoes! Any of these water shoes are great for the kids:

Sunday

For the last few years, Brandon plays in a Father’s Day golf tournament all day. The girls and I hung out at the house preparing for the week ahead until the tournament was over. Then they gave Brandon his Father’s Day gift (this portable speaker) and we got ready to go to my sister’s house.

My sister hosted Father’s Day dinner for all of us – my family, her in-laws, and my other sister’s in-laws. We had a wonderful Sunday evening feasting on steamers, swordfish, and steak. Annabelle, Ailey, and their cousin Sloane played together for hours while the adults enjoyed each other’s company.
