Every few months I enjoy giving my readers an update of my Life Lately. From family to work to thoughts about the world, this is my life lately in March 2020.
A Houston Family Update
My daughters are thriving in school despite my anxieties at the start of the school year. Annabelle loves Kindergarten, especially art class and officially learning how to read. Ailey adores preschool, saying her favorite part is when she can stay for the science extension program, Puddle Ducks. I always loved school as a child so it is a relief to see our girls enjoying it too.
This is the first winter we haven’t traveled anywhere as a family (aside from my trip to Los Angeles). I’d like to say we stay indoors to avoid the flu and coronavirus, but it’s also due to Annabelle’s dance schedule. It is her first year as a dance company student, so attendance is extremely important. We are so excited to see her tap dance in two competitions in April and May!
Looking for fun things to do indoors? Here are ways to beat cabin fever and how to have a fireside picnic.
An Update of Blog Life
As many of you know, blogging is my full time job, in addition to take care of our daughters. Over the last 12 months I’ve been feeling overworked though. I realize my blog was taking too much time and energy away from my personal life. As a result, my migraines returned and I began having difficulty sleeping. In an effort to slow down, I made a personal vow to make smarter choices when it comes to my blog.
The best way to work is smarter instead of harder. I have college interns helping me out and only take partnerships with brands I truly love. I no longer work on weekends unless I have to – and granted it makes Mondays very busy, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
My Thoughts on the Flu and Coronavirus
Everyone is talking about the Coronavirus as cases pop up around the country. Last night we learned a staff member at my daughter’s elementary school was in contact with a doctor who has been diagnosed with the Coronavirus. The Superintendent didn’t close schools since the staff member has not shown any symptoms, but I can’t lie – I’m nervous about my daughter’s health. When she gets home from school today I’ll be disinfecting her from top to bottom.

Speaking of illnesses in the neighborhood, family and I somehow made it to March without catching the flu. It tore through our town and school systems with a vengeance over the last few months. I know there is a chance we could catch the flu, but we stay home a lot to avoid public germs.
Migraines
If you follow along with me on Instagram you know I’ve been struggling with migraines over the last few months. I had a bit of testing done and the cause of the migraines is still unknown. My doctor thinks it’s a combination of sinus pressure, stress, and allergies. We are treating my migraines with a monthly injection that seemed to work until yesterday. Here’s to hoping I don’t fall into another cycle before my next appointment!
Yoga and Dance
For the last six or seven months I’ve been attending weekly hot yoga and dance classes. It’s incredible how much better I feel incorporating strenuous exercise into my life, as opposed to just taking the occasional walk/run outside. Physical activity is a huge part of my journey to loving my real self.
I’m learning a lot about myself through yoga and dance. It’s been a long time since I put on a pair of tap shoes and I was surprised at how well my feet remembered what to do. I’ll be performing tap and ballet numbers in a dance recital in June, along with my daughters who dance at the same studio. I’m extremely nervous to get on stage as a 34 year old Mom!
Looking forward to the next update of my life lately?
I’ll be back in a few months to share a peak into my family and work life!

I totally agree with the work smarter, not harder thing. I know managing things can be difficult while at home with kids – good for you for having a creative outlet!! <3

Yay Caitlin! What a great post. I have to say while I’m not worried about my own health and the Coronavirus, I’m definitely worried about passing along the virus without even knowing it! Yikes! Definitely scary… in brighter news it sounds like you’re thriving with yoga & dance!
Best,
Helen

I totally understand when you say that your blog takes up so much time and it ends up taking some time away from your family! It has happened to me and then it’s one of those things in which you like what you’re doing so much that you don’t realize that you’ve spend hours on it until later!

Glad your kiddos are doing well! The coronavirus craziness is scary — but taking the regular precautions (washing your hands, not touching your mouth, eyes or nose before washing hands) is essential…always!

I can definitely relate to how you’ve been feeling about blogging. As you’ve done, I’ve also taken a step back. I’ve been repurposing old content rather than pushing myself to consistently create new content, and I’ve also started taking off weekends to spend with my husband – or just get some alone time to rest! I also think it’s wonderful that you’ve been enjoying yoga and dance. Activity is so good for your body. I need to get back to that myself!

Migraines are the worst! I hope you find some relief soon. Mine are brought on from stress and I take meds for it.

I think a “life lately” post is a good idea! The hysteria of coronavirus is blasting through my area and I’m glad you’re able to find good boundaries with your blog!

Sounds like you had a great month! I love yoga and would love to take a dance class! I’m also a long-time migraine sufferer, I have terrible allergies but I noticed that my migraines went from daily to barely non-existent when I went on a food elimination diet!
