When the flu season strikes I think it is best to keep my children indoors. Germs are everywhere, just waiting to attack me or my little humans. The last time we went to the public library we came home with a bag full of books and runny noses. There are fun things for kids to do at home during flu season that are free!
We have spent the last few weeks in the house avoiding the germs in public places. Both of my daughters have had cold after cold and now are recovering from respiratory viruses. I have to become creative with fun things to do at home together, especially on the days that Annabelle doesn’t have school. I could easily let my kids watch television, but too much screen time turns minds to mush.
Fun Things to Do at Home During Flu Season
Dance parties.
Hide and seek.
Bake – cookies, banana bread, anything!
Make homemade play-dough.
Hide a toy somewhere in the house. Draw a treasure map for the kids to use to find the toy.
Have a tea party.
Build a sofa cushion fort.
Have fun with leftover cardboard boxes – dollhouse, fort, rocket ship, the possibilities are endless!
Write a letter/draw a picture to mail to a family member or friend.
Put together a puzzle.
Make homemade pizzas and have an indoor picnic.
Do a craft with household items – bird feeder, sock puppets, shoebox guitar

If you’re like me and afraid to leave the house during sick season, and it’s too cold to go outside, try some of these fun things for kids to do. And if you exhaust my list, pop a little popcorn and watch a movie together in sleeping bags on the living room floor. A couple hours of screen time never hurt anyone.
