Whether its sleeping, bathing, or feeding, I think all Mommies can agree that there isn’t just one way you should do something. All babies are different and figuring out your little one is like solving a puzzle.
Tubby time is definitely one of those daily routines that will be unique to your baby. I think its safe to say that we all have our preferences for bathing, so it is only natural that our little ones feel the same. We are still trying to figure out what Annabelle likes when it comes to tubby time. Some nights she loves it, other nights she does not. Making Lady A comfortable and content while we get her pretty little self clean is our main goal. Thankfully, the Moms I have met through #instababybabble on Instagram have been able to offer oodles of advice on ways to keep baby happy in different situations.
Here are three ways we’ve made Annabelle’s Tubby Time a happy time…
1. Bathe baby in a warm room – The room we bathe Annabelle in is unfortunately a little bit chilly. Fellow Mommies suggested turning on the shower before we start her bathe and allowing the room to fill with steam. Annabelle loves it! Not only does the warm air keep her comfortable, but the loud noise of the shower is calming.
2. Always have at least 3 wash cloths on hand – The first time we gave A a tubby, I went to clean her bottom first. My husband stopped me and said, “You’re going to use the same wash cloth on her face that you use to wipe her heiny?!” I really hadn’t thought about what I was doing… Needless to say, we use three washcloths at tubby time: one washcloth for her face, one for her body, and one to wash and cover her lady parts.

3. Wrap baby in multiple cozy towels – As soon as we are done bathing Lady A, we wrap her in two towels. The first towel is in case she goes potty on the walk from the bathroom to the nursery. The second towel is to keep her warm. The towels are hooded and big enough that none of her little limbs can poke out.
What does Tubby Time look like for your newborn?
Cute what your husband said about the washcloth =) Love the Tigger hooded towel, where did you get that?
We put a wet washcloth on baby’s chest/tummy. Keeps them warm. If it starts cooling off, just re-dip in the water. One of the best tips a fellow mommy gave us.
Aww! Cute and funny. I love how everything is a new exprience for them.

Thank you for that tip!
We have a little jacuzzi bathtub for our son and he loves it. We do keep our room relatively warm and fortunately our little chunk is warm-natured. In the bath, however, we start off with a nice warm tempature that baby seems comfrotable with. Once it starts cooling down, we drain about halfway and run some fresh warm water. We also keep the water poured on his chest and back so he doesn’t get cold. My hubs and i usually always give him a bath together as well. And we use at least 2-3 washclothes too.
Oooh how cool! I used the “My Brest Friend” and loved it because it gave so much support. This looks like a nice mix between the boppy and the brest friend.
our first bath was a disaster! i think we had the water far too cold for C but we were so worried to have it too hot! the 2nd bath we made it to my liking and i got in with him. he loved it and that was how we did things for quite some time! I’m glad you found some good tricks for A!
I’m so happy that James has loved his bath from the very beginning! If he’s screaming he instantly stops when he hears the water. He gets a bath every night as part of his bedtime routine. His great grandma made him huge hooded towels and they’re perfect because we’ll be able to use them as he grows! His baths are relatively quick but I can’t wait for the day that he starts playing!
The hooded bath towels are the best! I can’t wait for her to play in the tubby too!
I want to try to take a bath with her when she is less wiggly. Right now it would be too hard!
A jacuzzi bathtub sounds amazing!
It is one of the most fun aspects of having a newborn !
