A family tradition I cherish from my childhood is Football Sundays. My Mom and her sisters would take turns hosting Football Sundays where we’d gather for food, family time, and sports on television. Over the years, as the kids grew up and became busy with lives of our own, our tradition became nothing but a memory. This past August my younger cousin suddenly passed away and in his honor we decided to reinstate Football Sundays.
Our Football Sundays are not necessarily limited to Sunday, but held on the weekend when we can all gather to spend time together around the television. Football Sunday is potluck style, where everyone contributes something, like my Slow Cooker Pulled BBQ Chicken, or any other dish.
Why I love Family Dinners
The gatherings are easy-going, open house style, so there’s no pressure to be there at a certain time. My family always arrive just in time to watch our favorite college or NFL team and stay long after the game watching our children play with their cousins.
Slow Cooker Pulled BBQ Chicken
For anyone that likes to tailgate at home, Slow Cooker Pulled BBQ Chicken is the Ultimate HomeGate recipe. The recipe requires a slow cooker and the following ingredients.
Stubb’s® Original Bar-B-Q for Slow Cooker Pulled BBQ Chicken
Ingredients for Slow Cooker Pulled BBQ Chicken
2 cups Stubb’s® Original Bar-B-Q Sauce
1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
1/2 medium sweet onion, grated
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
3 lbs boneless skin-less chicken breast
Directions
1. Combine Stubb’s® Original Bar-B-Q Sauce, brown sugar, onion, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder and smoked paprika in the slow cooker.
2. Place chicken in sauce and use a spoon to cover the chicken with sauce.
3. Cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
4. Chicken is done when it can be easily shredded with a fork. Remove the chicken to shred with two forks on a cutting board (or if possible, shred right in the crock pot).
5. Place the shredded chicken back in the slow cooker and stir well with the sauce. NOTE: You may add extra BBQ sauce if needed.
5. Enjoy on a bun, inside a baked potato, or on its own.
Slow Cooker Pulled BBQ Chicken with Stubb’s® Original Bar-B-Q Sauce is one of my go to recipes for Football Sunday.
The Stubb’s® Original Bar-B-Q Sauce gives the chicken a spicy, smoky taste. Stubb’s® Bar-B-Q line of sauces, marinades and rubs are made right with quality, gluten free ingredients, and contain no high fructose corn syrup.
Everything you need for a Football Sunday or an Ultimate HomeGate party can be found at Walmart. Some key items that would make your Football Sunday the best include: French’s® Classic Yellow Mustard, Frank’s® RedHot Original Cayenne Pepper Sauce, and Blue Diamond ® Nut-Thins Cheddar Cheese variety.
Blue Diamond® Nut-Thins are wheat & gluten free. They’re a delicious snack to place on the table that is crunchy and crispy like a potato chip, but sturdy enough for toppings. You could even put a little BBQ chicken on top of a Blue Diamond® Nut-Thin!
If you’re looking for an easy side dish for Slow Cooker Pulled BBQ Chicken using French’s® Mustard, try the Spicy Beer Cheese Dip. Looking for in another slow cooker recipe to treat your guests, use Frank’s® RedHot to make an Easy Slow Cooked Chili.
