Today I wanted to share our first stop during our Newport girls getaway – Midtown Oyster Bar in Newport, RI. After checking into Gilded, we took a quick Uber ride to the harbor to take photos, but immediately decided we needed the quintessential Newport starter: a perfectly chilled glass of Rosé and variety of New England oysters.
We arrived at the restaurant in the late afternoon, so there was plenty of places to sit. We chose a seat at the bar and asked for a sampling of the daily oyster selection. They were all picked from New England and each had its own special taste. Beth eats her oysters with a little vinegar, while I enjoy mine topped with horseradish and lemon juice. A glass of bubbly Rosé was a perfect accoutrement to the oysters over ice, but if you prefer whiskey or champagne, Midtown Oyster Bar has an amazing drink menu.
During the offseason, the restaurant is quiet, but once the summer temperatures start to rise, Midtown Oyster is a popular spot in the harbor. From Sunday brunch to Champagne Tuesdays, from the raw bar to patio dining, the two floor restaurant and bar has so much to offer. I can’t wait to go back when the weather is warmer to experience the amazing atmosphere I’ve heard all about.
