If you don’t take care of yourself when you’re a Mom, everything will fall apart around you. That’s why self care as a Mom is non-negotiable. Last month I did something for myself. I’ve always been self-conscious about the scar between my eyebrows and how quickly frown lines appear. Want to know my solution to my insecurities and a form of self care? Botox.
How is Botox a form of Self Care?
Self care is taking an active role in preserving your physical, emotional, and mental health. If self-care is meant to reduce stress, why not do something to minimize a mark of stress: frown lines between the eyebrow. While I don’t mind natural signs of aging, my tendency to make exaggerated facial expressions doesn’t help. Frowning, raised brows, and squinting are extremely common movements for me. Thankfully, Botox is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment to eliminate or reduce facial lines and wrinkles in those areas.
My First Botox Experience
When I was offered an opportunity to try Botox at a local plastic surgeon’s office I jumped at the chance. I’ve used Dysport in the past, but it’s been quite some time since I received a treatment. As a result, the lines on my forehead and between my eyebrows seem more prominent than ever. Motherhood is stressful and I see it on my face every time I look in the mirror.
My Doctor was friendly and also very knowledgeable about the procedures offered in the office. There is something to be said about a conservative doctor. During my consultation I revealed my insecurity with the lines between my eyebrows and on my forehead. While the Doctor could have insisted I freeze everything above my eyes, he described how he would apply minimal Botox for a natural, refreshed look.
My Self Care is…
Whatever your choice of self care may be, make sure it’s something that brings you joy. Some days my self care is an extra long shower while everyone is asleep. Once a week my self care is taking a ballet class. And every four months, my self care is Botox.
