Sharing a little life lately update with what we are doing, what I’m watching and reading, during August in 2023.
The end of August fills me with bittersweet emotions. I’m usually not in my feels saying goodbye to summer because I adore the -ber months (back to school, birthdays, fall, etc.). But this season was one of our family’s most fun filled and adventure packed 10 weeks ever. So, even though I am excited for a new school year, I’m very sad the long lazy days of summer are over. With that being said, enjoy this little recap of our life lately in August 2023.
Life Lately – August 2023
August 2023 was a very busy month. We started in Cape Cod on our annual family vacation, then jumped into a week of dance intensives for the big girls and birthday party planning for me. Ailey turned 7 with a Karaoke Party while Annabelle hosted a makeup sleepover from her flu-ridden 9th birthday. Then we packed our suitcases for an 8 day trip to St. George Island with Brandon’s family. There were trips to the library and neighborhood pool, back to school shopping and fresh new haircuts. I hosted a Girls Night Out at Glow Medical Aesthetics and finished our bedroom mini makeover. As I look back on my iPhone photos from August 2023, my heart is busting with sentimental joy.

What I’m Watching and Reading – August 2023
- The Wilds – Season 2 – Amazon Prime: I really love the surprising complexity of this series! I thought it was about the aftermath of the crash of a plane full of girls headed to a girl power retreat. However it’s so much more! Without giving anything away, there is so much to unpack about the emotions of teenagers.
- “Cobble Hill” by Cecily von Ziegesar (Gossip Girl): When I saw “Cobble Hill” on the New Release shelf at the library I didn’t even bother to read the summary since I read (and loved) every book in the Gossip Girl series. I’m halfway through the story of four families living in an upscale Brooklyn neighborhood and it’s pretty entertaining!
- The Summer I Turned Pretty – Season 2: I have one episode left and just can’t seem to finish it! This season has been different than the first as I feel Bellie is much more whiny and difficult to follow. I want to see her relationship with Jeremiah grow, but hate how she keeps going back to Conrad.
- You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Miztvah – Netflix Movie:This funny coming of age story covers a lot of teen topics – and was right up my YA book/movie loving alley.
- Honor Society: I have approximately 5 minutes left of this high school teen movie I started on the plane and can’t wait to finish it. Honor Society is about a high school senior who will do anything to become the top pick for Harvard. It’s told from Honor’s point of view in a Ferris Bueller ‘face to the camera’ type of way. It’s a hilarious movie sprinkled with real teenage issues – I highly recommend it!

I am on a bit of a spending freeze as I save my pennies for my birthday trip. Here are a few of my newest favorite things (I finally replaced my 8 year old Miller sandals!).
What’s Coming Up for August/September
This week we are prepping for the first day of school on Thursday! I can’t believe Annabelle is going to fourth grade and Ailey is entering first grade. I’m excited for their adventures, but I’d be lying if I said I was happy to say goodbye to my little buddies. They helped A LOT with Arbor this summer and our house is going to be super quiet without the big sisters.
Our Labor Day weekend is packed – not only do we have three birthday parties, but I also need to restock our pantry for school year lunches/dinners. I want to go to Costco and Trader Joe’s for all my dairy free favorites and ingredients for easy meals.
As for the rest of September, we have so much on the calendar! Once dance starts for the girls, our weeknights will be spent shuttling them to and from the studio. The big sisters also have Nutcracker auditions, Back to School Nights, and Open Houses! Later in the month is my birthday trip to Las Vegas and the Life is Beautiful Festival. In between all of the planned events, I’m looking forward to cooler days, pumpkin spices in my morning coffee, and all things fall.
