Want a good laugh? Look up fashion blogger photo fails. There are so many bloopers when it comes to taking a great blogger style photo. Here is my experience with fashion photo fails.
Whether it was accidental or intentional, I brought fashion to my blog last year with my installment of Simple Mom Outfits. Spending time in front of a camera is actually an activity I enjoy (despite my insecurities) and I LOVE to share outfit ideas or finds with my friends – so fashion belongs here. However, after numerous fashion photo fails, I’m learning its extremely difficult to take a great photo on the first try.
Middle finger anyone?
To prepare for a photo shoot, I take time to study other bloggers poses. But if we are being honest, I rarely remember what I’ve seen once the camera is in front of me. I’m not a model, nor am I aspiring to be, but I do want to be able to look normal in a photo. As a result, I take so many pictures of myself until something looks good.
Mom Blogger Bloopers Are Inevitable
I can’t tell you how many photos my photographer takes before we have ONE good photo worth publishing if my daughters are involved. It isn’t easy to take a child’s candid photograph because they’re most likely going to do whatever you don’t want them to do. So, fashion photos – plus kids – equals one hundred frames to get one great picture.
One of the most difficult tasks for me is trying to find a way to walk naturally enough for a photo without looking like an angry flamingo. How does one show off a gorgeous maxi dress without looking like you only have one leg or foot?
Awkward Blogger Poses
If I had to pick a part of my body that I am most insecure about – it would be my lower half. My legs are where I struggle the most when it comes to posing. I think arms are easy to figure out if you have something to hold, but legs… they’re tricky. I worry about my legs looking too short, my hips looking too round, and my feet turning the wrong way.
Over time I hope to becoming better at posing in front of the camera for a fashion photo. I have trouble processing how ridiculous I look most of the time when I think I look amazing and it wears me down.
Recently I spent an afternoon with a few fashion bloggers who kill it when it comes to taking a photograph. They have all the poses down and look natural, not forced. As a result, one of my goals for this year is to be better in front of the camera. Wish me luck.
