26 Acts of Kindness for Newtown
With the recent tragic school shooting in Newtown, CT, I’m showing my support for the community with 26 Acts of Kindness. This movement is spreading throughout the country with people performing 26 acts of kindness for the 26 lives lost in the shooting. Here is an update of my most recent acts of kindness. 26 Acts of Kindness
1. Surprise my class with a cookie decorating party.
2. Make Paper Hearts for Newtown and spread the word about the project.
3. Give my special classroom helper a surprise Christmas gift.
4. Surprise my Dance Club with matching red Christmas shirts for their first Holiday Performance.
5. Bring my sweet angel who is in the hospital a big pink stuffed Penguin to cheer her up when she wakes up.
6. Purchase a Christmas shirt for one of the children in my class who is currently in a very sad situation at home.
7. Purchase Christmas outfits for another student whose family never celebrates Christmas (they cannot afford it).
8. Buy the coffee of the person behind me at Dunkin’ Donuts.

Journalist Ann Curry had an incredible thought, “What if? Imagine if everyone could commit to doing one act of kindness for every one of those children killed in Newtown.” Sadly, this is only a thought – and not something that may light a fire under anyone’s be-hind.
However, Ann Curry tweeted about her epiphany and BOOM! Just like that, followers suggested that people try 26 random acts of kindness for the 20 children and 6 women who lost their lives in the tragedy in Newtown, CT. #26Acts is the hashtag. And it is spreading across Twitter like wildfire.

You can read the article here, “If you do good, you’ll feel good.” There are TONS of ideas to get you started. My friend on Facebook actually printed out tickets to pass out to strangers as she completes her acts of kindness.
**I didn’t have the time to print any of these out… but this morning I am writing a Christmas card with that included. Then I plan on handing it to the person behind me, whose coffee I pay for in line at Dunkin Donuts.
Perhaps tonight at the airport, Mr. Bear and I can buy a traveler a drink while we wait for our flights.
I know that it seems my random acts all have to do with spending money. But my Mom said something very profound to me yesterday… and I can’t directly quote her without embarrassing her… but it was funny, but SO TRUE.
How many people buy coffee weekly? If you don’t drink coffee, then how many people buy drinks out at a store weekly? I want you to think about how much money you spend on those drinks…. and then think about what happens after you drink it. You pretty much pee that drink out…. along with the money that you spent. You are peeing money…..so why not spare some for a stranger?

Okay so this made Mom cry…and my quote was kind of on the money.. I love you!
I only learned from the best Mom! You and your big bleeding heart – 🙂
Your mom is one smart lady! I LOVE the white rose on peoples’ cars. So sweet. Have a Merry Christmas and thanks for bringing Christmas love to your kids!
I have always done ‘random acts of kindness’ but they never had such meaning as they do now that this tragic thing has happened in my state.Sad and heartbroken!
Aunt Donna you are the QUEEN of kind acts! From the notes you send me, the texts, the supplies for my class, to everything I see you do for others. You are amazing!
