I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been asked this question: “What do bloggers do all day?!” It’s totally understandable to not understand what a day in the life of a full time blogger looks like if you’re not living it. Bloggers are mostly self-employed, making their own schedules and hustling 24/7. It’s not all selfies, blogger brunches and talking to yourself in Instagram stories though. There is a LOT you don’t see… and I want to share that with you. So enjoy – here is what a full time blogger does all day.
BEFORE YOU GO ON: I want to clarify one thing – my routine is rarely the same Monday through Friday. As you all know, I am a work at home MOM. We don’t have childcare during the day, unless you count Annabelle’s preschool three days a week. Ailey is always home with me except for the rare occasion one of my parents can keep an eye on her if I have a doctors’ appointments or the rare appearance on CT Style. 0
5:30/6:30am – Wake up! I would love to get up earlier, but I rarely fall asleep before 11. On most days I wake before the girls. Before I get out of bed, I check my phone email, Instagram notifications, and mindlessly scroll through Facebook.
6:30 – 7:30 – I always make the bed before going downstairs to the kitchen in the morning. Then I’ll make a cup of coffee and Ailey usually wakes up before I take my first sip. She likes to eat as soon as she opens her eyes, so it’s cereal or waffles ASAP. While she eats, I take my vitamins, sip my coffee, and eat a banana. Then I make Annabelle’s lunch for school.
MWF = Monday, Wednesday, Friday
T/Th = Tuesday, Thursday
7:45 – 8:45 MWF – The girls and I get dressed and ready for the day. The girls then play until it’s time to leave for preschool. I set my blog post live, publish an IG post, and share the links on all social media platforms. I spend 10-15 minutes engaging on social media while cleaning up the kitchen. I round up the girls and we head out the door for preschool by 8:45.
7:45 – 9:00 T/Th – I always let Annabelle sleep until whenever she wants on the days she doesn’t have preschool. Ailey usually hangs out with me until big sister wakes up and sometimes we play, sometimes we watch t.v. together. Once Annabelle wakes up, I feed her breakfast and Ailey usually has breakfast round two. The girls run off to play while I clean up the kitchen, start a load of laundry, and make my To Do list for the day.
9:00 – 11:00 MWF – Ailey and I run errands right after we drop off Annabelle at preschool. We go to the grocery store, library, Target, etc. and make it home in time for lunch. If we don’t run errands, we come home and play for awhile together until she starts to do her own thing. I bring my laptop downstairs to answer emails and sit in the family room with her. I rarely do anything more other than take silly videos of Ailey before she naps around 12:30/1.
9:00 -11:00 T/Th – Annabelle and Ailey enjoy playing together, so I set up the baby monitor in the playroom and run to my laptop. I start rapidly answering emails, pitching brands I’d like to work with, and applying to campaigns on influencer networks. I’d like to work nonstop, but during this two hour span I usually walk away from my computer a minimum of 10 times to check on the girls/break up an argument/change a diaper/make a snack. I also get distracted easily once I leave my desk, so during this time I might start doing chores around the house. The struggle is real!
It’s LUNCHTIME
11:00 – 12:00 Everyday we eat lunch between the hours of 11 and 12. Sadly, this is often my first real meal of the day. While the girls and I eat in the kitchen, we listen to music, dance, and sometimes I check social media when they’re chatting with one another.
12:30 – 1:00 GET AILEY TO SLEEP – Every day I try to get Ailey to take a nap between 12:30 and 1. She likes to sleep for two hours, but MWF we have to pick up Annabelle at 3pm. Getting Ailey to take a nap might entail reading books, singings songs, or chasing her through the house.
12:30 – 2:45 MWF During nap time I try to work on blog content. I may spend the time she is sleeping taking photos for a campaigns or future blog posts (either alone or with a friend). I also like to sit down and brainstorm new blog topics, edit photos, or write drafts. There are days when I have blog consultations during this time, but those are mostly done during the evening after bedtime.
12:30 – 3:00 T/Th During Ailey’s nap, Annabelle usually hangs out with me. On the days she has school work to do, we sit together in the dining room and I help her with homework. She likes when I make up bonus activities for her to do (and the teacher in me does too!). Other days, Annabelle will draw/color while I work on blog posts. Annabelle loves to help me take blog content photos (and is pretty great taking photos of me too).
3:00 – 5:00 Once Ailey wakes up, she likes to eat a snack, so I always start preparing dinner early. While I cook dinner, the girls usually run around the playroom or we have dance parties in the kitchen. If the girls are pre-occupied playing, I might call a friend or family member while I cook. During these two hours I also CLEAN… why is it that my house never ever looks clean no matter how much time I spend on it?
5:00 – 7:00 I usually end up cooking two dinners – one for the kids and one for the adults. After we all eat, my husband plays with the girls either inside or outside. During their time together I may go run an errand alone – other times I sit at my desk and answer emails/write blog posts/edit photos/prepare for blog consultations.

7:00 – 8:00 We have been playing a board game Annabelle got for Christmas as a family around 7pm every night. Then my husband gives the girls a bath while I take a shower. We both get the girls dressed after bath time. Then we all hang out, usually eating popcorn in our bed, reading books or watching television together.
8:00 – 8:30 Brandon and I get the girls ready to go to bed – brush teeth, take vitamins, sing songs or read books. Bedtime always takes at least 20 minutes.
8:30 – 11:00 After the girls go to bed I do a variety of things: clean the kitchen, fold laundry, watch Netflix (alone or with Brandon), read a book in bed, or chat with 1-2 blog consultations. I used to write my blog post for the following day before bed, but now write drafts over the weekend and finalize them throughout the day. Bedtime is always by 11pm… unless I am watching something awesome or reading a great book!
So what do you think of my day?
It doesn’t sound all that exciting does it?
Where are all the fantastic blog events? I thought you go out to eat all the time and just shop shop shop? NOPE. I am home almost every day! I rarely go shopping unless it’s for groceries or random house items. Occasionally I travel for Confessions of a Northern Belle to cool places or make the spontaneous appearance on CT Style . Other than that, I’m here, doing my Mom and work at home blogger thing.

I love these types of posts. I have two little ones at home too (one in preschool) but it’s nearly impossible to get anything done without a sitter! I have part-time help, you need to let me in on your secret lol.

I would imagine there’s tons of distractions with the little ones around!

Sounds like you have a good thing going for now. As the girls get older, things will shift around and your routine will change along with it. You are blessed to have a beautiful family though it’s a crazy ride!
