I find great humor in the fact that I hated wearing shorts for most of my life, but now as a Mom, I find so much comfort in a pair of shorts.
In high school, I was a dancer with athletic thighs, so many times I had difficulty finding shorts that fit correctly. I always wore a skirt or a dress during the warm months. In college, I was a crazy workout fiend, so my muscular, but petite build had me shopping in the kids section, but left me wearing booty shorts. For the few years after college, before I became pregnant, I just hated everything I tried on. Too short – too tight – too long – too something – there was always a problem. But now, since pregnancy stole my perky butt and defined muscles, I find myself wearing shorts whenever the temps are right.
One of my favorite pairs of shorts are a white denim cutoff from J.Crew that have a foldable hem. These shorts are high cut in the waist with a 5′ inseam. I usually try to buy shorts with a 4-5′ inseam since I was not blessed with long legs like my daughters. The foldable hem on these white denim cutoffs were a selling point for me, as it changes the look of the shorts, but also provides an added sense of modest comfort. Anything I can bend over while wearing that doesn’t give the world a show is my kind of clothing.
White before Memorial Day is a thing of the past, so these cutoffs have been on rotation in my wardrobe since the weather became warm here in Georgia. The cutoffs are made of jean material, so they don’t wrinkle. If you’re like me, owning any clothing that requires an iron is just a hassle – so if I can toss something in the dryer to get out any wrinkles then I’m sold.
Sadly, I only own a few pairs of shorts that are worth wearing this spring/summer. J.Crew and J.Crew Factory is my favorite store for most of my wardrobe. I love these 4″ inseam white shorts, these 3 1/2″ white shorts, and this white pair of high rise denim shorts.

I love your outfit, and the kids! So cute! I wish I still had a little girl to wear a onesie and I would snap that ruffled piece right up!

I love your outfit! I appreciate all these simple mom outfits ! I’m thinking of starting a similar series: “What Mama Wore” over on my blog. I live in shorts around here now that I’m on the playground so often and a skirt just won’t always do! (I do still like to wear a good skirt or dress when it’s hot out though!)
These photos are excellent! Your daughter is so cute and you’ve got some great Mommy & Me photos!

Shorts are so hard for me. As a Mormon, I wear the Mormon garments, which go a few inches from my knee. So, finding shorts or skirts that are above knee, but don’t show my garments is really hard, especially because I DO have long legs (my husband is TALLER than me, but I have LONGER legs than he does!!!! hahaha). Thankfully, Old Navy and Wal-Mart have PERFECT short length for me that is still above the knee, but Mormon modest (and Old Navy has the same shorts in maternity!!!!) I live in these shorts since I now live in Dallas!!
