Last Minute Family Halloween Costume Ideas
It’s not always easy to ask your family to follow a theme for Halloween – especially when you have little kids! Over the years we have convinced the girls to dress up for photos, but never trick-or-treating. My sister-in-law has better luck with family costumes since she and my brother-in-law work around the kids’ ideas. Whether you are looking to purchase easy Halloween costumes or inspiration for a last minute homemade Halloween costume, here are some great ideas:
- A League of their Own (coach and players)
- The Flintstones
- Elliott, Gertie + E.T.
- Ted Lasso + his team
- The Shining
- Superheroes – all the same or your favorite
- Classic Ghosts: All you need are white bedsheets and scissors. Bonus; Add sunglasses to create “cool” ghosts or goofy eyes for extra charm!
- Christmas Vacation – definitely for an older group, Cousin Eddie, Cousin Catherine, Ruby Sue, Clark, Ellen, etc. Grandparents can even get involved!
- The Incredibles Family
- Dress as each other – kids are Mom and Dad and parents are the kids (wear name tags)
- Doctor, Nurse, Patient
- Dentist, Tooth Fairy, Tooth
- Mime Family – All black outfit (look in your closet!), white gloves and white face paint
- Any type of coach (whistle) + referee (black and white striped shirt) + kids in sports uniforms
Last Minute Halloween Costume Ideas for Family (NEW for 2025)
It’s 2025 and you just realized you need a family Halloween costume that is new and fresh. Don’t worry, last minute doesn’t mean low effort — you can still pull off something fun, easy, memorable.
- Funny Pun Costumes are a hit: cereal killer, deviled egg, holy guacamole (see more pun costumes)
- Labubu Family – this is the easiest DIY Labubu costume I’ve seen yet
- Peppa Pig and George (as well as the rest of the crew) – just order some last minute pig noses
- ’90s / Y2K: Think butterfly clips, bucket hats, platform shoes, crop tops, and baggy jeans.

I think the EASIEST last minute family costume idea is GHOSTS. Not only are ghost costumes trending on social media, but all you need is a bedsheet and a pair of scissors.
