Today I’m sharing an honest review of my stay at the Kimpton Mason & Rook Hotel in Washington, D.C..
Once the decision was made to go to Washington, D.C. for my sister’s bachelorette, I knew we had to stay at a hotel that would match the bride’s personality – sophisticated with a sense of quirkiness. After reviewing numerous hotels, I came upon the Kimpton Hotel chain.
Why Choose a Kimpton Hotel?
Kimpton Hotels are funky, but classy, so without hesitation, we booked the Kimpton Mason & Rook Hotel. Mason & Rook’s stylish, modern vibe was perfect for our weekend getaway. The boutique hotel was centrally located, making for easy travel and convenient site seeing.
From the moment we were checked into our rooms, the staff made the bride feel as incredibly special as she is. We were pleasantly surprised a few times over the weekend with little treats – the mimosa bar was my personal favorite – and the attention to detail kept the bride smiling. Our paper groom approved of everything as well.
Kimpton Hotels Have Amazing Concierge
Even though the hotel was packed for the holiday (Easter) weekend, our needs were met and the concierge exceeded our expectations. Room service was available for a late night snack and the hotel bar was open for a nightcap after hours of dancing.
The Guest Rooms
We stayed in three Executive Queen-Queen rooms, two on the fifth floor and one on the tenth, which was steps away from the rooftop bar. Each room was decorated a bit differently. The rooms are spacious – perfect for four girls getting ready to go out for a night on the town – and the lighting in the bathroom is superbly selfie worthy.
The Bathrooms
Our walk-in shower had full sized toiletries and perfect water pressure. The countertop held everything we needed to prep and primp and there was a full length mirror in the hallway between the sleeping area and bathroom. We spent quite a bit of time in front of that mirror wearing the comfortable hotel room robes.
One of Kimpton’s most well-known amenities is their daily happy hour from 5-6pm in the hotel lobby. The vibe of the hotel lobby makes you feel somewhere exclusive and even a little bit important. A smiling concierge staff member serves guests a variety of drinks – you may find wine, beer, or even a fun cocktail, plus a tray of tasty finger foods.
We enjoyed mini egg rolls the first night of our weekend and juicy cheeseburgers the second. For a bachelorette party, the unlimited drinks at happy hour and snacks were a group favorite. The rooftop bar is normally not open until sometime in May, but the weather was perfect that weekend so the hotel opened it right up.

All About the Kimpton Hotel Rooftop Bar
The drinks were delicious (so many choices!) and there was a chef making small plates behind the bar. The rooftop was packed with all kinds of guests – after work happy hour folks, couples staying at the hotel, and then our large group of bachelorette ladies. The music was loud and the breeze was just right. The pregnant girls had a pair of delicious tacos while we enjoyed glasses of Champagne and Rose.
The Mason & Rook is a convenient, accommodating boutique style hotel. Each member of our group was awed by what Kimpton had to offer, from coordinating a ride to the train station at 4:45am on Easter morning for one of the girls to a delicious farewell brunch at The Radiator. From the hotel’s stylish urban decor to the rooftop bar, the free daily happy hour and amazing concierge, the Mason & Rook Hotel was perfect for our stay. We loved how easy it was to walk to Whole Foods, great restaurants, and even a few boutiques. If you’re planning a bachelorette, or just looking for a fabulous place to stay while in D.C., the Kimpton Mason & Rook Hotel is the where you want to be!

Wow the hotel is gorgeous!! Such an amazing bachelorette! Looks like y’all had fun! I have a question that is slightly unrelated to this particular post–but I remember you mentioned that you’re still ebf? I’m about to leave my ebf baby for the first time for a business trip, and I’m freaking out 🙁 How did it work out with you being away, and how were you able to juggle pumping on the trip? Thanks so much!!

Looks like such a fun weekend. The hotel rooms are beautiful and I love the food they give you for happy hour. So much better than the small apps that most hotels give you.
