Today I’m sharing our favorite baby products for the first three months. There are so many items on the market that it can be stressful trying to find the best products for your newborn. Here are my reviews of our go to newborn essentials for the first 3 months of Arbor’s life.
Newborn Essentials for Sleeping
There are only a few things a newborn needs to thrive – a place to sleep, something to eat, and your protection. Our older daughters slept in the recalled Rock-n-Play as newborns – so with Arbor we were advised to try the Halo Bassinest.
Unfortunately Arbor was only a fan of the Bassinest for a few weeks. She was waking and crying every 30 minutes for some unknown reason. For the sake of my mental health and so I could sleep, I made the decision to co-sleep using the Snuggle Me Organic Lounger. She sleeps in the lounger between me and my husband soundly each night and I can easily roll over to pick her up when she needs to eat every two hours.
Baby Lounger: Snuggle Me Organic Lounger
Note: This is NOT an approved sleep device, nor should a baby be left in it unsupervised.
Baby Pajamas: The two way zipper pajamas are one of the best inventions ever for easy diaper changes. I prefer lightweight sleeper pajamas year-round versus any fleece pajamas.
Swaddle: Sleep to Dream – this swaddle is amazing! She likes to sleep with her hands up and it keeps her feeling snug and safe.
Sound Machine: The Hatch Plus is the BEST sound machine I have ever used with my babies. It syncs to your phone and has a multitude of sounds and colors for the light. You can control the intensity of the light and volume from the app on your phone too.
Newborn Essentials for Feeding
Arbor has been exclusively breastfed since birth – which is unlike her sisters who needed supplementation during their first few weeks. Another difference is we introduced a bottle to Arbor at 8 weeks old so I would be able to leave the home for more than an hour.
Milk Collection: While breastfeeding I use the Haaka Breast Pump to collect milk from the unused breast. I store the milk in my freezer in these bags.
Bottle: I started using the Comotomo Baby Bottle because the design is very similar to a breast. Arbor has only used these bottles and likes them – I have yet to need to try anything else!
Breast Pump: I have been using the Lansinoh Smartpump 2.0 for sporadic pumping needs. It is small, convenient, and gets the job done. However, my lactation specialist suggests the Spectra Breast Pump if I were to pump exclusively (it’s stronger).
Burp Cloths: These are by far the most absorbent burp cloths I have ever used that get softer with each wash.
Favorite Baby Products for Bath and Skincare
The best bath products for newborn skin are gentle and free of fancy ingredients. Arbor has eczema so I have to careful of what I use on her skin. We have been using Tubby Todd bath products per the recommendation of my sisters (whose babies have eczema too).
Bathtime: Up until the end of her second month we used Tubby Todd Products for bath time. The brand creates products that are gentle on a newborn’s skin. However, Arbor’s eczema has flared up, so we are using Cetaphil Baby products. I love Cetaphil baby products because they are also gentle and help calm up eczema.
Sensitive Skin Care for Newborns: Aquaphor is my go-to for eczema flare ups and post-bath dry skin. Aquaphor has a special 3-in-1 diaper rash cream too we love to use too.
Cradle Cap: The 3 Step Cradle Cap System by Frida Baby is an amazing product for removing cradle cap. I used a fine tooth comb and coconut oil with Ailey when she was a baby – but this system is way better!
Other Favorite Baby Products for the First 3 Months
Baby Bjorn Bouncer: We didn’t start to use the Baby Bjorn Bouncer until Month 2, but Arbor loves sitting in it. She can watch us move around her safely and upright. Since she has a bit of a reflux problem, it’s helpful to sit her in the chair after nursing. Bonus: She’s learning how to use the toys!
Baby Carrier: Baby Bjorn Mini is the perfect carrier for a newborn because it’s made just for their size! It is soft, foldable, breathable, and easy to wear. My husband can even use it and he is 6’3!
The Shusher – I really missed out on this incredible gadget with my first two babies. The Shusher makes nap times on the go, stroller rides and car rides SO much easier for a baby who likes to be “Shushed” to sleep.
Pacifiers: We have tried a number of pacifiers and her favorite are these. Tommee Tippee sent Arbor the pacifiers before she was born – and now we own quite a few!
Changing Pad: Everyone raved about the Keekaroo Peanut Wipeable Changing Pad and I know why – it’s easy to clean, comfy, and babies love it.
Disposable Mats: These disposable changing pad mats go everywhere with us because they’re just what you need when your baby has a blowout. I’ve heard you can buy puppy pads to use as well!
Baby Booties: These Zutano baby booties are literally the only shoe that’s every stayed on my newborn’s feet. I despise baby socks so I love a bootie that snaps on and doesn’t fall off. They always have sales too!
Play Mat: I’ve known about the Lovevery brand since Ailey was a baby! I love the amazing Montessori centered products they make for babies and children. The Lovevery Play Gym is designed for child development right from the start.
