It’s official – I am BACK in the dancing world!!
Monday I went to Jazz Basix, a technique class which I am going to make a MUST on Mondays. Not only was I able to work on my flexibility and strengthening my core, but I also brushed up on my turns and leaps. The instructor, Casey, is funny, sweet, and amazingly talented, and I think she will help me out a lot. She teaches a Lyrical class afterwards but I need to build up to that.
Last night I went to POP! Jazz and found a trusty Tuesday class. Peter is not only a brilliant dancer, but he is hilarious and can booty pop better than the best. His class was so much fun and a great workout. I am looking forward to taking his lyrical class once I take some more basic technique classes. After POP! I tried out Mechanix – which was definitely not something I will be going back to. The first 30 minutes were great, but when the instructor started throwing out ballet terms, I blanked and booked. I haven’t taken a real ballet class since I was like 15 and I do not remember which French word means which ballet move. No thanks.
I am really looking forward to purchasing a membership to the studio – I think the classes will not only get me in amazing shape for the wedding, but I will also (hopefully) become a good dancer again…because right now I am just…. O.K. And SO flippin sore. I hurt in places I didn’t know could hurt…
I haven’t danced jazz/ballet since I was 17 so my moves are obviously a little dusty and my boyd is not used to moving like that anymore. I was on the Uconn Tap Team in 2004 though, and definitely stomped and shuffled around a bunch.
I can’t wait to be able to take an hour long jazz class and not get out of breath AND be able to walk normally the next day. If you live in Atlanta and love to dance – lemme know – maybe we can check out A-town Funk or Disco Summer Nights together.
