At the end of each year, I often float between excitement for what’s to come and sadness for what has passed. The thought that another 365 days seem to disappear in the blink of an eye is unsettling, but I’m reflecting on our top moments instead of mourning the end of a great year. It was hard to choose my top moments from 2017 because it was such a fantastic and exciting 12 months. I managed to pick a few, so here are my top five. Enjoy!
1. Our Big Move
This fall we officially announced we were moving to Connecticut! It was a HUGE move, not just because my husband and I spent 17 hours in the car with our cat, but especially since I haven’t been back in my home state in 12 years.
We are still looking for our forever home and staying with my parents in the meantime. It’s been great spending time with family (and saving money). I know 2018 is going to be amazing because we will be moving into a new house to make our own.
2. Ailey’s First Beach Trip
Brandon has been going to Destin since he was just a little guy and started bringing me along when we started dating. Every summer we make two beach trips – one to FL and the other to Cape Cod – but this year we only went to the white sands of the gulf coast. Ailey had a blast and proved to be much more different than her sister when it comes to first times on the beach. Ailey loved the sand, water, and all there was to see and do.
3. Ailey Turns One
On August 15, 2017, our smiley Ailey turned 1 year old. To celebrate her first year of life, we had an adorable watermelon themed birthday party, complete with a bounce house, giant watermelon slice cake, and our CT family and friends. Ailey has proven to be the most exciting addition to our family and keeps us belly laughing and on our toes daily.
4. Annabelle Turns Four
Just a few weeks ago, Annabelle somehow tea party themed eventturned four years old. We celebrated her fourth year of life with a hosted by her Zia. The par-tea was INCREDIBLE and if you ever run into Annabelle, she will probably tell you all about it. Annabelle has become quite the character over the years – with her flair for dramatics and storytelling, plus her giant imagination, she is as magical as the mermaid/fairy/princess she hopes to be someday.
5. Well, since I couldn’t pick just five… so here are a few more.
Annabelle’s First Dance Recital
The birth of my first niece – Sloane Kennedy
On September 1 my family welcomed Sloane Kennedy into our lives. She is the sweetest little nugget who makes us all smile a little wider each day. My sister and brother-in-law are doing fabulous being first time parents and my daughters are obsessed with their new cousin. You must check out her boho floral nursery… it is Pinterest-worthy.
Adults Only Getaway
Brandon and I escaped to Arizona and Mexico for a week in September to go to our friends’ wedding and for a company celebration trip. We missed our girls but really had the best time kids-free. I forgot what it’s like to be able to sleep through the night or being able to drink champagne for breakfast without a toddler judging me.
My Sister’s Wedding on 9/23/2017
On September 23, my sister and her high school sweetheart got married in Killingworth, CT. The bohemian garden wedding was romantic, unique, and an absolute blast. From the pie dessert table instead of wedding cake to the big green pizza truck to the handmade essential oil favors – from the vintage dinner plates to the rose petal prosecco to my brother-the-DJ – every little detail of their wedding was memorable. Everyone danced for hours under a giant white tent in the middle of the groom’s family farm and ended the night frolicking around the town.
