My one and only Friday Favorite is a recap of my night at Bread and Water with my girlfriends. If you live in Connecticut, or find yourself passing through, you must check out the Middletown restaurant. I’ll be back next week with house updates!
Bread and Water in Middletown, CT
When a restaurant is literally named after the two items I couldn’t live without, you know it’s going to be good. Bread and Water is a restaurant in Middletown, CT that you must visit on your next date night or girls night out.
Chef Carl Ciarcia loves to put on a beautiful presentation and has an incredible talent for cooking foods you’ll think about for days after you dine in. Last night I had the pleasure of sitting through a seven course tasting menu at Bread and Water with my blogger friends, Stacey and Nicole. Each course came with a cocktail/glass of wine and explanation of the most beautiful dishes I’ve ever seen.
Fun fact about Bread and Water: The restaurant is located in an 1850’s house that used to have a prison in the back (where we actually ate). The popular prison meal – bread and water – is where the restaurant’s name derived from.
My FAVORITE dish that we tasted – the Squid Ink Two Ways. The egg yolk in the blue crab ravioli was heavenly. To me – eggs and pasta just go hand in hand, so I practically licked the plate when I was done. The way the egg yolk spilled out of the ravioli when it was cut into… I don’t think I stopped raving about this dish all night. Oh, and I can’t forget the fresh Maine lobster on the spaghetti – so buttery and it totally melted in my mouth.
The last two dishes – Rack of Lamb and the dessert sampler are not pictured because it became too dark in the room (re terrible photos). I am not a huge fan of Lamb, but took a bite and have to say it was flavorful, moist, and delicious.
The bread served at the start of the meal needs a special shoutout – who would think to put a carrot puree, garlic infused olive oil, and duck fat butter on a plate? The carrot puree was hands down the most unique spread I’ve ever put on a slice of crusty (still warm) bread. Yum yum.
Thank you Bread and Water for hosting the three of us last night! We truly enjoyed every bite (and sip) presented before us!
