Is it just me, or has almost every blogger that I started reading since 2008 had a baby or recently gotten pregnant??? Some of my fellow bloggers are even on their second baby. Boy, do I feel the pressure….
Don’t get me wrong – I am doing just fine baby-less. I currently have a furbaby and 24 first graders who keep away the “baby fever.” From the hours of 7-3, I play Momma to a whole gaggle of little kiddies who remind me that I am not ready to have a child of my own. And then the rest of the hours of the day, I have a little kitty who likes to poop on the rug, climb up the curtains, and my iphone headphones around the house. My kitty and my chickadees make me a very tired girl.
BUT….my fellow bloggers stir up a little bit of envy in my belly. There are some Moms who make pregnancy look very glamorous…they are fashionable and cute and lure me in with their amazing bodies and clothes.
But they can’t fool me. I have to remind myself that I know there is a bigger truth – I have family and friends who have been pregnant since I have been old enough to pay attention to what happens to a woman’s body. They get bloated, swollen, pimple-y, hairy, and stretched out. And not everyone can wear cute maternity clothing. Maybe it will be me.
I also know that babies aren’t like the sweet smelling babydolls I grew up playing with. You also don’t get to dress your baby up all day long – putting them in fun poses for photo shoots and parading them around town. Babies spit up, have explosive poops, and cry…a lot. Plus, being pregnant can be hard… and babies are a lot of responsibility.
So I can’t be jealous of my blog friends… I have to be proud of them. I have to be in awe of them. And give them them two thumbs up and a high five.

I have noticed this too! It’s funny- IRL, none of my friends are having babies, but in blog world, LOTS of people are- including me! So strange.
But I don’t think I’m very good at making pregnancy look glamorous or pretty. :-/ Sydney from The Daybook definitely took care of that one though!

Oh yes Sydney definitely makes pregnancy look like fun!

I totally agree…I feel like I’m one of the very few baby-less too.

Are you trying to have one?

THANK YOU for this post. I have been feeling baby fever for over a year now and seeing all my friends, real and bloggy, pregnant makes me yearn for it more. But sometimes I have to sit back and think, am I ready? All that I see on facebook or pinterest is all the glamorous parts, but there is far more ‘work’ than that. Thank you for reminding me:)
Mrs. Newlywed Giggles says
I agree with you too Mrs. C!

YES…. i think it’s just me and you out of all the bloggers I follow that do not have babies….. and to make it even worse for me, my two best friends are pregnant and another friend is pregnant too… and EVERYONE keeps asking me. Lately, I have gotten baby fever bad and it has affected me a lot. It’s hard when everyone around you is pregnant and you aren’t.

Are you trying to get pregnant, or wanting to wait? I hate that everyone keeps asking me!! Some of them are older people (like a woman in church flat-out asked us when we were going to have kids recently. Made me so mad) so I understand it’s the generation..you get married, you have babies, that’s how it works! But it’s still frustrating!
Mrs. Newlywed Giggles says
We are waiting. We are just not ready. Call us greedy, but we are enjoying our time together. But everyone keeps asking and it gets annoying! lol.

I’ve been feeling the pressure to have a baby too…when in reality we’re not ready! We’re not going to be for a couple more years, even. I hate that I can’t seem to post anything on Facebook (even non-baby related) without people asking if I’m pregnant. It’s frustrating.
My sister-in-law is pregnant though, so I’m enjoying seeing her go through it (she’s 18 weeks) without having to deal with all the crappy stuff myself! Ha! I do love my little fur babies…for now they’re enough for me!
Sometimes I do feel like I HAVE to have a baby because everyone else is, but then I remember everyone else isn’t living in my house, or with my finances, or my schedule!
