Date nights are important for parents and marriage. Unfortunately babysitters cancel and kids get sick, so date nights don’t happen as much as we would all like. If date night gets cancelled, here are five things to do instead.
Build a Pillow Fort
When was the last time you built a grown-up fort? There is something romantic about climbing inside a homemade tent on date night with the one you love. So put the kids to bed, build your fort, then get cozy inside with whatever you’d like.

Have a Fireside Picnic
When date night gets cancelled fireside picnics are one of my favorite things to do at home. Whether it’s sushi-to-go or a homemade charcuterie board, we love to lay out a blanket and eat by the fire.
If it’s warm outside, take the picnic to the backyard or the deck. As long as the kids are safe inside asleep, who said Mom and Dad can’t enjoy dinner outside?
Blind Tasting
Wouldn’t it be fun to have a tasting at home? This is an easy date night idea just run out to the package store and grab a few different kinds of beer or wine. Tie a scarf around your partners’ eyes and give them a sip of something new. Vote on which drink you like best!
Make a Spa at Home When Date Night Out Gets Cancelled
I would be lying if I said my husband doesn’t enjoy when I put together a spa night. Everyone loves to relax with cooling eye patches, a face mask or a pore strip! We always have at home spa items in the bathroom closet, ready to go for anything. Grab a heated blanket, light some candles, and put on soothing music while you relax together.
Game Night
My husband and I aren’t the biggest game night fans, but every couple is different! Laughter is good for a marriage, so always keep a few fun games in the house for when date night gets cancelled.

It’s no fun to have your date night plans thwarted, but I love your resolve to always make the best of the situation and still take time to share a fun evening with your husband. And a good cheese board fixes everything.
