For our ninth wedding anniversary, Brandon and I wanted to visit a part of Cape Cod we have yet to explore: Falmouth. The beautiful coastal town is located on the Upper Cape and less than three miles from our house in Connecticut. We stayed at The Coonamessett, a Cape Cod Inn part of the Lark Hotel family. Located less than a mile from downtown, The Coonamessett is in a prime spot for couples or families hoping to explore, shop, and dine at many incredible establishments in Falmouth.
We arrived at The Coonamessett around 3pm, after stopping by The Cape Cod Winery for a tasting. It is right down the street from the Inn and a lovely place to try local wines. Check-in was a breeze and we were handed our keys, as well as a little map so we could find our room on the property. The lobby of the Inn was so welcoming, with big leather chairs to lounge upon and a crackling fire to warm the space.
The Coonamessett Property Details
The Coonamessett was actually just renovated in May 2018. They have 29 rooms and suites, some of which accomodate 2 people while others can accommodate 3-4 guests. The Coonamessett is very popular for large events, like weddings, and offer room blocks for guests. They also offer accommodations for pets in some of the rooms as well. The Coonamessett maintains the quaint feel of Cape Cod coastal living with brand new maritime-inspired guest rooms. We stayed in the Village King Suite, which is part of another building overlooking a beautiful pond.
The suites are all connected and look very much like the cottages we stay in during the summer on the Inner Cape. The gray clapboard and white shutters are a popular exterior design found all throughout Cape Cod. Since we were visiting Falmouth during what is known as “almost off-season,” there were not many other guests to be found. We loved feeling like we had The Coonamessett to ourselves.
The Village King Suite
Upon entering the Village King Suite, we felt like we were at home. The decor is inviting and warm. From the seating area with the open books on the walls, to the wrought iron bed with down comforter and fur throw, to the subway tiled bathroom, every detail was carefully chosen.
We spent a few hours dining at Eli’s Tavern, the restaurant on-site at The Coonamessett. The Tavern hosts Happy Hour from 4-6pm daily where you can enjoy $1 Oysters and Half Priced Appetizers. We had a half dozen Wellfleet Oysters (so good!), Applewood Smoked Bacon Wrapped Scallops, Clam Chowder, and Crab Stuffed Shrimp. It’s very dark, cozy, and warm inside Eli’s Tavern with a large crackling fire, booth seating, or stools by the bar. I actually didn’t snap any photos during our dinner because I wanted to spend every moment I could paying attention to my husband. After dinner we headed out to watch the Red Sox in the World Series at a local restaurant, recommended by a lovely woman sitting beside us at the bar.
Continental Breakfast at The Coonamessett
We woke up early the next morning to try to catch the sun coming up over the pond outside. It was SO chilly and we could see a little bit of frost on the grass. After wandering the property for a little bit, we headed to the main building for a continental breakfast. Lark Hotels are known for their small plates and delicious bites. We were not disappointed by the spread of bagels, mini quiche, muffins and fruit.
We truly had a wonderful stay at The Coonamessett in Falmouth, MA. I wish we had more time to spend exploring the hotel and the adorable coastal town, but we had to hit the road right after breakfast for our next stop. Thank you to The Coonamessett for your hospitality and an incredible anniversary getaway!
Thank you to The Coonamessett and Lark Hotels for hosting us on our anniversary getaway. All opinions are honest and my own. All photographs are original and belong to Confessions of a Northern Belle.
