At four months old, Ailey was irritable, drooling, and pulling at her mouth. When we brought her to the pediatrician, she told us she saw two places where teeth might be trying to poke through. I couldn’t believe that at four months Ailey was teething! Fast forward three months and we are still gummy and toothless. Who knew teething could take so long?
We have our good days with a happy mouth – no drool, no gnawing, no teething symptoms to be seen. But as these things go, we have our bad days with a sad mouth, when she seems to produce buckets of spit and her fingers become red and raw from being chewed.
The best advice I can give to parents with perpetual teethers is to try every possible remedy. Emmi and Eli Boutique sent Ailey her first wood and silicone teether that she loves gnawing on and playing with in general. I was hesitant to allow Ailey to put wooden rings in her mouth, because wood seems like a strange item to teethe on, but they are soft, safe, and very appealing to her sore gums. And the silicone bead ring is a perfect combination of pastel colors and ideal for chewing. Bonus: I love how the shop personalized the rings with her name.
The wooden rings are made from organic kiln-dried hardwood birch, CPSIA compliant and 100% safe for children, treated with a homemade wood sealant made from organic olive oil and beeswax. The pink, teal, orange, and white high quality chew beads are made from 100% food grade silicone. They are FDA Approved, non-toxic, BPA Free, PVC Free, Phthalates Free, Cadmium Free, Lead Free and Nitrosamine Free.
Teething is one of the hardest stages of infancy because there really isn’t much you can do to help your little one who is suffering. All you can do is make the baby comfortable and offer safe teething toys (or cold, wet wash cloths) to chew on.
Emmi and Eli Boutique was started by Christin, the sweetest SAHM originally from Germany. She loves making unique and practical gifts for babies and moms. You can find a variety of handmade items in her shop – from diaper clutches with matching changing pads, to natural pacifier clips, wet dry bags, pacifier pods (which are SO cool!) and more – everything that new and experienced moms need. I am pretty obsessed with this flower diaper clutch…
Who knows when Ailey will finally pop out a tooth. She will be eight months next week and her gums don’t look puffy or swollen at all. Fortunately she doesn’t need any teeth right now to eat her baby food, but come this summer she will need something to help her devour cake at her first birthday. If you would like to buy your little teether the same teething ring as Ailey, or anything else from Emmi and Eli Boutique, use code BABY20 for 20% off.
