For Annabelle’s 4th birthday, she had a tea party themed party. Want to throw your own par-tea? Here is how to have a kid’s tea party birthday party!
How to Host a Tea Party Themed Birthday
Annabelle’s birthday might not be for another nine days, but my sister, Tine, hosted a par-TEA for her and four of her friends yesterday. My other sister, Mom, and I were the co-hosts, but we have to give all the credit to Tine (and her MIL) for setting up the magical day. Without a doubt, Annabelle’s tea party was the cutest, most fancy birthday tea party we’ve ever seen.
Tine has quite the collection of tea cups and pots, vintage plates and dishes, plus a beautiful home. We served the girls a lovely lunch of homemade chicken bites and potato tots (requested by the birthday princess), with a side of baby carrots and cucumber sticks. The little girls dressed up in their princess costumes and had a dance party. Then we did their makeup for a photo shoot. Finally, each girl decorated a sugar cookie to take home!
Tea Party Birthday Favors
There are so many different favors you can hand out at a birthday tea party. Annabelle’s guests received hand-made knit scarves, a princess lip gloss, a silly foam friend, and a vintage tea cup. Here are some other tea party birthday favor ideas:
- Tea Cup (check out the thrift store!)
- Tea!
- Lip Gloss
- Cookies (decorate your own as an activity)
- Jewelry (check out the dollar store for pearl necklaces)
What to Serve to Eat at a Tea Party Themed Birthday
Kid-friendly tea is a must have at any tea party birthday. There are plenty of kid–friendly teas that are naturally caffeine-free with a flavorful twist (see here for more!). In addition to serving a selection of teas, a variety of small foods—both savory and sweet—are essential.
- Deviled Eggs, Cream Cheese Celery Boats
- Tiny sandwiches – peanut butter and jelly, cucumber and cream cheese, chicken salad, sunbutter and banana, ham and cheese, grilled cheese
- Tiny cakes
Each little girl tried a little bit of decaf tea with cream and real sugar cubes. I think they were most excited to sip out of the tea cup like a grown up than the actual tea inside, but it was fun to watch the girls try it.
I can’t believe she is going to be four years old next week… it feels like yesterday I was pregnant, decorating the house in anticipation of her arrival and Christmas. Now here we are, she’s the one in charge of decorating the house for Christmas and I’m holding back all my Mama tears at how grown up she looks.

We all know Noni is a soft touch BUT i must say this really did make me cry I still remember waiting for her to be born after taking you to the Dr in the AM and them saying get to the hospital NOW. Little Miss A has always liked a grand entrance she made us wait that day but oh how well worth the wait was. Love Love Love her!

What a sweet idea for a birthday party. I bet they felt soooo grown up getting to drink tea out of a real tea cup! That last photo of Annabelle is so precious.
