You know that saying Mother Knows Best? Sometimes I think it should be Sisters Know Best. There have been many times in my life where the only person who can solve my problems is my little sister. Even though I’m older than my sister, exactly two years and eight month, I turn to her for advice, her opinion, and comfort as much as I can being 900 miles away.

Annabelle takes her job as big sister very seriously.
She truly knows she holds a strong influence over her baby sister Ailey – which could be a point of contention in the future if they get themselves into trouble. But for now, the way Ailey looks at Annabelle is priceless and completely endearing. She brightens as soon as Annabelle comes into her view. I’ll be sad if there is a day when the magic of their sisterhood fades.

Ailey looks up to her sister for so many things.
Ailey wants to eat what Annabelle eats and play with all the same toys. In no time, she will be crawling after her into ballet class. One of my favorite interactions is how Annabelle is teaching Ailey the importance of books these days – climbing into her crib to read the ones she has memorized and informing her that books are not to be licked or eaten. Is it too early to tell Annabelle to be careful of her power over Ailey?
I want Ailey to be her own unique self, but at the same time I truly hope some of Annabelle’s ways rub off on her. Annabelle is cautious and careful in this big scary world in the best way possible. We joke that Ailey will be the one to put a penny in a light socket since Annabelle was too frightened of the unknown to try such a thing. Hopefully, Annabelle’s love of rules and affection for patrolling her sister’s every move will prevent anything like that from happening.

As their Mother, I know there are going to be times the sisters don’t agree with me. I’m happy they’ll have each other in those instances. My sister and I stuck together a lot through our youth and it helps to have a side kick when you’ve gotten into trouble. It’s not hard to understand why Ailey wants to be around her big sister so much – she’s pretty amazing. And as for Annabelle, I know firsthand that little sisters are the greatest gift ever.
I love this and being a big sister I love it even more. Having younger sisters is one of my greatest treasures.
AH…..soooo beautiful!!!
Oh so lovely! My sister and I are 2 years and 10 months apart. Being a big sister is one of the greatest roles I have. My little sissy and I may be at completely different points in our lives but we’re closer now than ever!
I love your posts!! I have two daughters 2 years and 4 months apart! They are 30 and almost 28!!! I love them with all my heart!!! I have two sisters an we all do not get along.
I love this post. My two kids are 2.5 years apart…my baby girl smiles whenever her big brother is in sight. Her eyes follow him everywhere. I can just imagine that once she become mobile, she will follow him around like a little duck. And he is so sweet to her. He’ll smile and coo at her, kiss her forehead (he sees my husband do that to me all the time) and pats her head.
