Ailey is officially one month old! We cannot believe our newest little girl is growing and changing so quickly. Enjoy Ailey’s one month old update.

From your adorable button nose to your Snow White skin to your chubby little thighs, you are just the apple of our eyes. It’s hard to believe it’s been five weeks since Ailey Leighton came into our lives (I promise the birth story is coming soon), since the first time we all sat together as a family of four in the hospital bed, we have felt complete.
The adjustment has not been eventless.
Ailey has been one who wants to eat every 2.5-3 hours since birth, so baby has herself on a nice little schedule. At one month we are figuring out that she likes to stay awake until 10pm, wake at 2am to eat, and then wake again at 6am to eat. She sometimes goes back to sleep in the morning, but also likes to hang out once in awhile. Her nap patterns during the day vary, especially if Annabelle is taking a nap. For some reason she prefers to be held during big sister’s nap time, so I don’t ever get anything done.
Annabelle adores her baby sister as if she was a gift just for her from the angels above. Granted there have been a few moments when big sister might be a little afraid of her little sister – Ailey doesn’t scream and cry as much as a newborn could. For the most part, Ailey is a pleasant baby. She cries when she needs her diaper changed or if she has to burp. If you interrupt her nursing session, though, she will show you a different side to her cute self.
Ailey loves to eat and her weekly weight gain is proof. Five days after her one-month appointment, Ailey was up to 10 lbs 10 oz! She is exclusively breastfed (except for the formula we used in the first week and a half of her life). She enjoys a warm bottle, but will spit back the milk if it’s cold. She’s quite the butterball, but has her Daddy and sister’s long legs. It seems we have ourselves another tall girl!
We have frequented the doctor office quite a bit for Ailey. At birth we worried of Jaundice, at three weeks she was put on Zantac for acid reflux, and at 5 weeks we are applying medicated cream twice a day to her eczema, baby acne, and cradle cap. These issues are teeny tiny and we are overwhelmingly grateful she has been a healthy baby.
Just like Annabelle, Ailey can pick her head up when she’s laying on our chest. During tummy time at 3 weeks, she lifted her head from side to side with ease. She doesn’t mind tummy time for short periods and really likes to lay on her back and watch what happens around the room.
Sometimes she enjoys being in the swing while awake, but it’s mostly a play she likes to lay when she is fast asleep. Ailey spends her nights in the Rock-N-Play without a swaddle since she prefers to sleep with her arms up by her head, or folded under her chin.
Who does she look like?
With each day that passes, we all agree Ailey and Annabelle look more and more alike. However, there are definite features that each girl will make her own. The jury is still out on Ailey’s hair and eye color -we know this will change over time.
She was born with more hair than Annabelle and it is definitely on the dark side, but her eyebrows are blonde. Her eyes look dark green or gray or brown, but definitely not blue. We wonder if she will have Daddy and Annabelle’s big brown eyes or Mommy’s green eyes. Ailey’s inherited my fair skin and I wonder if she will develop freckles when she is older just like I did.

What a cutie! Leighton has been very structured with her every 3 hour feelings since birth too, it makes it so nice to plan around. I love the picture of the two girls together!
