Fall has arrived full force in Connecticut with changing leaves, cool nights, and pumpkin everything. Last month I put together my New England Fall Must Haves before the season even began! Did you also see our October Bucket List? Today I’m sharing everything you need for the fall. Here are Five Items You Need for October to have the best season ever (written in 2018).
I’ve always loved to wear hats throughout the four seasons, but the cooler months are when I really get excited. Wool hats are a fall fashion trend for 2018 and I’m happy to report that I didn’t have to go out to buy many. I’ve always had a collection of floppy hats and my maroon wool hat is one I treasured since I found it in a Cape Cod boutique. Here is a similar maroon hat under $15!
One of my favorite hat stores is HAT ATTACK. They are a local Connecticut company and have every type of hat you could ever want to wear! I’ve rounded up a bunch of wool hats that are perfect for both fall and winter months.
Don’t get me wrong – I love the ambiance of a burning candle and the scent of most seasonal blends. However, there is something about diffusing aromatic essential oils that make your house smell like fall I can’t live without. One of my current favorite fall blends is Nutmeg, Clove, and Cinnamon. It smells just like a pumpkin pie. Another amazing essential oil blend is Orange, Thieves, Nutmeg and Clove. It smells just like fall and my sister named it “Cozy Fall Sweater.” Do you use essential oils?
Does anyone else truly enjoy putting on a cozy sweater when the temperatures start to drop? I look forward every fall to being able to throw on a cardigan, pullover, or poncho when it is chilly outside.
The J.Crew Open Front Sweater Blazer is one of their top selling items year after year. I’m so excited I found one before they sold out! I will be wearing this all season different ways. I would love to pick it up in navy or maroon as well.
The Sherpa Pullover is another fall fashion must-have as it is so soft, comfortable, and warm. Sherpa Pullovers are being sold at so many different stores in a variety of prices. From $15.99 at Boscov’s to $12 at Walmart to $109 at Nordstrom, anyone and everyone can own one, haha. Here is a round-up of Sherpas for the fall (updated 2021).
A Wrap is an great outerwear piece that can spruce up any outfit. I have a few kimonos, wraps, and ponchos in my closet that are versatile and easy to throw on over a long sleeve shirt, dress, or even sweater. Fringe, ribbed, plaid, knit – whatever pattern or fabric you choose you’re going to wear it all season long.
Mules, Moccasins, Bean Boots, and Booties
Fall is all about the right footwear – mules, moccasins, booties, and bean boots are on rotation by my front door. I’m not a huge fan of riding boots (shortgirlprobs), so these are my go-to styles.
This is the first fall I’ve had a porch I’m truly proud of! My husband upgraded our shutters to black and we’ve been stocking up on Mums. I love a great fall door mat and layering a Hey There Pumpkin mat over a woven checkered door mat is a popular trend this season. Lanterns are a staple on our porch as well and we’ve had them for years.
