As we start to plan the decor and furniture for our new home, New England coastal style is our inspiration. Fresh white coastal colors and nautical influences, such as as navy and white bedding and driftwood pieces, are at the forefront of our vision for the master bedroom. My Pinterest board is adorned with essential aspects of New England, such as coastal, seaport, and cottage style pieces. Here is a preview of the inspiration behind our Master Bedroom design.
Cape Cod
Almost ten years ago, Brandon proposed to me on the beach in Cape Cod and every summer since, we’ve vacationed there with our family. To pay homage to this place near and dear to our heart, a framed map of Cape Cod and trinkets from our travels, such as a miniature lighthouse, photographs, or a seaport ship are on the decor list. I’d love to find a few lobster traps to stack in the corner of the bedroom, too.
The guest rooms at The Whaler’s Inn contain inspirational decor ideas.
The Beach
In our last home, we had a wooden seagull and bag of shells to symbolize our love for the beaches. To elevate this decor theme, nautical knots, ocean images, or sea life will find its way into our new master bedroom. We also have an old glass bottle filled with sand from our wedding day in Destin, Florida. Anything resembling the ocean – whether it be a white sandy beach in the Panhandle or the dunes of the Cape, I’m all for it in our bedroom.
My personal style is very expressive of the colors I’d like to see in our bedroom.
New England Coastal Colors
I’ve always loved the combination of navy and white, with a subtle pop of red. My last bedroom had cream walls (ehh) and a cream carpet (double ehh), but our bedding was navy, white, and light blue. We have more control over our new master bedroom, so bright walls, bright white bedding with navy and blue accents, as well as coastal colors will be found throughout the room.
I love that there are so many stores that haveNew England coastal style, such as Pottery Barn. We are looking for a mixture of new and antique pieces for the bedroom, but a bed has proved to be most difficult to find. We have California King sized mattresses and every time we find a bedroom suite we love, it is sold out or not made in our size. Stay tuned to an actual Master Bedroom reveal in a few months… in the meantime, please share your favorite products that align with my vision.

I’m so excited about your (yet to be revealed) news! When we bought our house in 2011 we found our bedroom set at Bassett Furniture and absolutely love it. The quality is top-notch and they do have Cal-King size in most of their stuff. They have stores in Orange, Newington & Westport, if you haven’t looked there yet. I love decorating!!!
