Sharing a little life lately update with what we are doing, what I’m watching and reading, during the last week of June in 2023.
Life Lately : June 2023
Over the last month we have been busy with end of the school year events – like the girls’ dance recital and and Ailey’s Kindergarten concert. My Mother-in-Law flew up from Tennessee for a visit and to attend the recital. It was so nice to have her here! We celebrated Brandon’s birthday and attended our town’s Memorial Day parade (the first since before Covid!). On Father’s Day we decorated the driveway for Brandon while he was golfing, visited my Dad, then watched the girls splash around in the backyard.
Last week we attended of the most exciting events of our summer: the 2023 Nationals Competition at Foxwoods Resort and Casino. Annabelle and Ailey have been looking forward to competing at Nationals since their studio announced it back in January. They were in five numbers, three of which scored high enough to earn a spot in the coveted Grand Showcase at the end of the week. We were thrilled (and surprised) when both of Annabelle’s dances placed in the awards portion of the showcase! I’m so thankful my Mom joined me on the trip to help wrangle the girls while Brandon stayed home with Arbor.
What I’m Watching
- “The Idol” – wow, wow, wow. This show is definitely on the scandalous side, but it’s entertaining enough that I can’t stop watching. I recommend reading a little about it before watching so you’re not completely blindsided by the graphic content (like I was). P.S. The lead actress may look familiar as her father is a very famous actor!
- “Never Have I Ever” – I am disappointed this adorable series is over, but the final season was great. I love when a show ends with every story line tied up neatly in a bow.
- “High School” (based on the Memoir by Tegan and Sarah) – I haven’t started this yet, but it’s on my list. I’m a sucker for anything based on high school/college years, especially when it’s set in the 90s.
- “Cruel Summer” – I’m only halfway through the first episode of Season 2 and so far it’s pretty good. I really loved Season 1 that premiered in 2021, so I have high hopes for another juicy storyline. This is also a high school drama set in the past.
What I’m Reading
- Pools + kids make me nervous – but these Swim Safety Tips from Experts make me feel a bit better about spending time around water this summer.
- This list of friend date ideas is perfect for planning your next girl’s night out!
- All about “The Idol” – the reviews truthfully helped me understand a lot about this weird (but intriguing) show. I can’t stand The Weeknd’s character and this article says exactly why he doesn’t hold a candle to Depp’s Jocelyn.
- I never thought to wrap airplane toys for my toddler in tinfoil… so many more good tips in this post!
What’s Coming Up – June 2023
I can’t believe it’s already the end of June! We have a lot of fun plans this summer – starting with basketball camp for Annabelle. Brandon has been waiting to see if one of our girls take after him in his love (and talent) for basketball. Annabelle is the first to try it out! I think Ailey will be more interested in art or acting than sports as she grows up, but we will see. And as for Arbor – she’s too little to tell what she will enjoy. All we know right now is that she has LOTS of energy!
As for me, I’m looking forward to hot yoga classes during Arbor’s nap and spending quality time with my family. Summer usually feels stressful, but this year I’m entering the season with a different mindset. I’m working harder than ever to improve my mental health instead of letting it go unattended for the next 8 weeks. I know our house is a much happier environment when I have my anxiety under control!
