Dear 16 year old self,
Life is going to hand you lemons. Big SOUR lemons. You’ll get more lemons with age (sweet little presents) and you need to know what to do with these lemons. Do not cry, yell, or hide under the bed. You either make a vodka lemonade or make a lemon pie. Those are your only choices, so don’t whine and either get drunk or fat.
You will discover the key to happiness lies within your heart, mind, body, and soul. You must learn how to be happy with your self my dear. This means: You cannot count on others for your happiness. This is one of your flaws. You are the type of person who expects others to make everything pretty for you. Sadly, life can be ugly and you’re on your own for a lot of those tough moments.
You will meet a boy who you will marry that will not only make your heart explode with rainbows and unicorns, but he will also make your heart ache. Don’t run from him. Push through the tough times. You need this in a guy. Plus, your fights will seem pointless to be had when they’re over (90% of the time).
You are going to expect this boy to call you 24/7, to want to see your beautiful face every waking moment of his day, and to shower you with surprises. NEWS FLASH: Relationships like this do not exist.
Your future husband has all the qualities that you could ever need in a man. He makes you feel safe. He makes you laugh when you are sad. He eats your crappy cooking with a smile on his face. He is trustworthy and keeps a better secret than anyone you will ever know. He doesn’t make fun of your terrible singing voice. He is the kind of guy who is always up for something fun – whether it be measuring the snow piling up outside or making your cat dance to rap music.
Write this down somewhere: You need to be with someone who you can call your best friend. And lucky for you – your future husband will be your best friend.
Awww…this is so sweet! My favorite part is “eat your crappy cooking with a smile on his face!” Haha. As if your cooking is crappy!
Oh you don’t even know! One time I made soapy eggs…
I love this post. 🙂
Thanks Meg!
Love you and B 🙂
Aw we love you too!
I love all the pictures!!
And everything you wrote is OH SO TRUE!
Thank you!!! I tried to be as truthful as possible!
I love this, your pictures are gorgeous and all your words are SOOO true:):)
Thank you!!! I tried to be honest about everything!
Awww! I love this! I can definitely relate to your flair for the dramatic. 🙂
Love this! We are very similar 🙂
Love all of your “self advice”…I need to remember your point about the fights. They’re almost always pointless when it’s over. Also, I just love the pictures. Were they engagement photos?
Thanks! The pics were actually done by a friend “just for fun”!
Sorry I don’t have a picture up yet–I’m new to reading and commenting on blogs, but I’ll figure it out. I love your letters to your younger self!! Your honesty and openness are so refreshing! Love your blog.
Thanks so much for the compliment 🙂 and welcome to my blog!
Too cute! Husband does the same for me! 🙂 Especially about the cooking thing! haha
Making your cat dance to rap music-that’s how you knew he was a keeper 😉
He sold me on that one!! Haha 🙂
