I know I’ve said how much I adore Jodi Picoult before…or at least I think I have. If not, here is why Jodi Picoult is My Girl.
Jodi Picoult is My Girl
There is something so similiar in how I feel when I read one of her books that reminds me of myself and a bag of Jelly Belly jelly beans… Once I have a little taste, I can’t stop until the bag is empty, or it is all I think about. No matter where I go I can’t get the image of a tiny juicy pear or bright orange peach or shiny strawberry jelly bean out of my mind.
When I start reading one of Jodi Picoult’s books I always have trouble putting it down. The next thing I know I am lying in bed with a flashlight, frantically flying through the pages, trying to find out what happens at the end of the story.
The difference between Jodi Picoult’s books and a bag of jelly beans is that I don’t have nightmares after eating the candy. I don’t cry when I eat those sweet little morsels either. Nor do I feel the need to discuss the tastiness of jelly beans with others like I do after one of Jodi Picoult’s messed up plot lines.
Example: The Pact… holy crap, I had nightmares for a week
I am going to try to read all of her books – even the ones that I’ve been told aren’t as great as the others.
Well, I might leave out My Sister’s Keeper because I had some emotional issues/ties to the story when I swa the movie.
My sister in law cracked me up when she told me why she doesn’t read books by Jodi Picoult.
Me: Do u like Jodi Picoult?
Sister in law: No…her books are like razor blading your eyes and then pouring lemon juice into them. Why would you inflict that much pain on yourself?
What do you think it is her books that keep us coming back for more?

I love Jodi Piccoult as well, at least I did at first. I felt like after a couple of books, they became very predictable and were very similar to each other (the concepts at least). I don’t know if it is because I read so many of them right at the same time or what…
..of course that is not going to stop me from getting the ones I haven’t read yet from the library..
All you need is love... says
I have read 2 of her books.
After I read the first one I SWORE I wouldnt read another one of her books. I thought the way it was written was absolutely horrible! And the story was just silly. That book was The 10th Circle. Then after reading the book, I watched the movie… Just as silly.
But then the movie previews came out for My Sister’s Keeper, and I could remember seeing that book at stores years before, and wanting to read it then. So before the movie came out, I made it a point to read it.
It was a great book. Cried? yes. Emotionally disturbing? YES. Omg it scarred me. very morbid.
I heard the ending is completely different in the movie, so I have chosen not to watch the movie. At least not yet.
I LOVE the Danielle Steele books! Those I cant get enough of!

I’ve read all of her books (except for her newest), and I love them! She has an amazing ability to tie serious moral issues into her stories, and it makes it so compelling – which is why you and I both can’t ever put them down!

oh wow. i LOVE her. I really, truly do. I’ve read (and own) every single book she’s every written with the exception of the WORST book I think she’s every written, Salem Falls. I absolutely cannot read this book, no matter how many times I try. I just can’t get through it. Weird. I was SO excited when I heard she was coming out with a new one this year- House Rules. I JUST started it last week and it’s awesome. For reals? I have two and a half book shelves dedicated to her. My husband thinks this is hilarious. You HAVE TO HAVE TO HAVE TO read Nineteen Minutes (if you haven’t already). It’s the best one she’s written. SO GOOD!!!!! Try to read the ones that HAVEN’T gotten all the hype (like, My Sister’s Keeper). I read that book four or five years ago and it was SO much better then, before it was movie-made, etc. I also loved it because I’m a Bone Marrow Transplant nurse, so it hit a bit closer to home… Who knows. Anyways, I love me some JP!!!

heyyy! i read 19 minutes when i was in high school and loved it!!! you should try to read it!
Katie says
i haven’t read any of them, but i LOVE new good read suggestions! although i hope you’re right and not your SIL. razor blading and lemon juice does NOT sound like my idea of fun π
too funny.

I have a love/hate relationship with JP. 19 minutes was amazing — but her books all follow the same formula which bugs me bit.

I love her books, I have read all of them that she has out to date. But you are right, they are tear jerkers and somewhat emotionally disturbing, but I can’t put them down none the less.

I love love love her books…
The Pact… I too was scarred for a long time after reading that.
My Sisters Keeper…. oh sweet mercy I was a mess.
I LOVED 19 minutes… hmmmm… come to think of it I have yet to read one that I don’t like.
I have a bunch of them, and I am like you – I do whatever I can to get through the book!!!
I’m not sure what it is… but I just can’t put them down!

I have always been a JP fan. I don’t know what it is about her stories that draw me in. I think she makes them very human and personable. I feel like I get to know the characters throughout the store like it’s someone I know in real life, which is why I too have dreams after reading her books. I can’t ever put them down. I have to be sure to start on a weekend or a time when I will have a few days, because I go into reading coma once i start!
Virginia Belle says
I love her books and also can’t put them down once I start. I even get pretty addicted to JP and tend to read her books one after the other which is never a good idea (way too much crying). So now I try to alternate them with happy chick lit. Oh and your mention of The Pact brought so much back. I loved that book but had so many questions after it. I just wanted to find someone to discuss it with!
I’m a new follower and love your adorable blog π

I absolutely love JP, but you do kind of set yourself up for some sadness when you start one of her books. I think I’ve read about a third of her books, and want to read them all too, I just have to space them out to avoid going into depression. I can’t wait to read the new one, House Rules. It’s on my summer reading list for sure!
Jenny.Lee says
I’ve heard about her books but have not read any. I don’t handle sad books well. lol
Candice Lynn says
I LOVE her books! And you are right…I am totally that person sitting in bed, holding my eyes open just to read one.more.chapter.
The Pact was So sad. Have you read Nineteen Minutes? So good too. I haven’t read Change of Heart. Which one is your favorite so far? I need a new book for the beach in a few weeks!

I’ve enjoyed the books I’ve read by her so far…my favorite has been “Plain Truth”, so good!
I think her writing is so unique, she doesn’t fit the “happily ever after” bill, plus you never can figure out how in the world she is going to end the book…
Jordan says
Some of them I like, some of them I don’t! But, I am making it a goal to read all of them! π
