Sharing a little life lately update with what we have been doing during April in 2025 on Caitlin Houston Blog.

Life Lately / April 2025
April has been a month full of adventure, family time, blooming flowers, and wacky weather. My allergies have been awful a few days a week, which makes it difficult to spend any time outside. Arbor is NOT happy when we have to stay indoors so I’ve been trying to entertain her as best as I can with cooking and art projects.
We had a special visitor when my mother in law came to stay for a week over Spring Break and into Easter. She and my Mom joined us on a trip to Cape Cod, where we spent a night at Ocean Edge before staying at a beautiful beachfront home. It is so peaceful and calm during April on the Cape, so we were able explore different areas and try new restaurants without a crowd. Stay tuned for a more detailed post – you can read what I’ve already published about Cape Cod here.
Other fun things we did this month include Easter celebrations, the school dance (Arbor’s first, Ailey’s second, and Annabelle’s last) and dance photos (Arbor’s first, Ailey’s 6th, and Annabelle’s 9th). Tonight is our last big April event – attending an awards ceremony for Annabelle at Town Hall.

What I’m Reading, Watching, Buying in April 2025
Whenever I am in a book/show rut, I look for book and television recommendations from others. Then I like to return the favor. I spent a lot of time reading in April because I gave up watching television for Lent. During this break I learned I can be a lot more productive and sleep better when I am away from a screen.
April’s Bookshelf – What I Read
Tower of Dawn and Empire of Storms: I was advised to do a Tandem Read of The Throne of Glass Series books 5 and 6 by all the biggest TOG fans. A tandem read is when you read two books simultaneously by following a schedule. For example, read chapters 1-3 of TOD first and then chapters 1-6 of EOS. Yes it was confusing at times and also hard to carry around two giant books – BUT worth any inconveniences. With so much happening in various characters’ lives at the same time but on different continents, one must read both books at once!
I cannot reiterate this enough: Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass series is better than A Court of Thorns and Roses series. The storyline and character development is much more elaborate from a literary standpoint – even if there is less spice and steam.
Spark of the Everflame by Penn Cole – I am listening to the audiobook when I don’t have time to open a physical book (80% of the way through). This story is right in line with my love of fantasy and magic, as well as the presence of a powerful female protagonist. However, the visual imagery and dramatic structure of the storyline falls flat in comparison to novels by Maas. I’ll continue listening because 3/4 of the way through things are finally interesting – which means I will definitely read the rest of the series.
I keep track of what I’m reading on Goodreads if you want to check it out!
Outfits from April 2025
April has been both unseasonably cold and very warm, so my outfits are all over the place. This month I bought a few items to add my closet I know I will wear often – travel outfit, FP onesie, and two full skirts. Check out my outfits from April 2025 below, keep reading for details on certain items, and click the photos to shop what you see.
- Photos 1 and 2: Beyond Yoga is opening a store in Westport and send me a workout set and pull-on wide leg pants – I’ve worn them nonstop!
- Photos 3, 4, 5: The black tank and pants set and full white skirt are my first Amazon clothing purchase in years. I typically don’t spend money on items I don’t think will last, but I don’t regret the purchases because I think they’ll be worth it.
- Photo 6: After eyeing my sister’s Hot Shot onesie forever I finally bought one when it went on sale. Love the easy casual style – kind of dumpy in the back but it’s too comfy to care.
- Photo 7, 8, 9: Baby shower outfit, new two piece set from Aerie, working at girl’s night at Glow Med Spa
