I’m sharing how to wear a puffer vest two ways, both puffer vest outfits are perfect for running errands, holiday shopping, or staying warm and comfortable.
One of the most worn items in my closet during the fall/winter is a puffer vest. Similar to a puffer jacket, the vest is easy to throw on over most anything as an essential tool for layering during the cold months.
On the day of my photo shoot for this post, I had a tough morning with the girls and wasn’t able to put together the type of outfits I envisioned. I thought I’d style the puffer vest with both a dress and a skirt, so I could share with my readers how to dress “up” something we all think is dressing down. I grabbed a favorite sweatshirt, comfy jeans, and my LL Bean boots for the first way to style my plaid puffer vest.
This outfit is perfect for Moms who are running out the door to preschool drop off and then the grocery story – or even childless ladies looking to be warm but stylish.
I found my plaid puffer vest at Boscov’s for under $20 a few years ago, but there are many different versions you can find in stores or online at low and high price points. The tartan print can be worn over greens, blues, white, reds, and blacks.
As a work at home Mom, I want to dress comfortably, but in a way that I won’t be embarrassed if I have to run out the door. Layering a puffer vest over most outfits adds a little bit of style and warmth.
Another way to style a puffer vest is over a plaid flannel shirt. I have collected so many plaid flannel shirts that I could wear this combo every day for a month. My white quilted puffer vest from J.Crew comes in many different colors and is a great investment piece. You can find solid quilted puffer vests for less at Old Navy and Target.

I LIVE in puffer vests in the Winter! They are perfect for a weekend in the Hamptons or up in the mountains. For whatever reason, I don’t see them as much in Manhattan — guess people there aren’t aware of how great they are yet! Love both ways you’ve styled yours, that J.Crew vest is very cute!
