Happy happy birthday to the funniest funnest guy I

Happy happy birthday to the funniest funnest guy I’ve ever met. He brings so much joy and laughter to all of our lives - and is such an incredible Daddy (always surprising me with his girl dad ways) ✨ @b__houston I hope this is the happiest year ever - we can totally pretend it’s your birthday again when we go to Vegas this fall!! 🎂🎈

Two Fridays ago I was in a very low place… one I

Two Fridays ago I was in a very low place… one I’d never had the ‘pleasure’ of visiting. I felt inadequate, confused, and sad.
.
Knowing the sun can do wonders for our mind, body, and soul - I forced myself outside to soak up a few rays before the day was over. As I sat with my thoughts, I prayed what I had been praying for weeks: Please give me a sign that I will emerge from this dark place.
.
Then Brandon told me to look up and I saw not one, but two rainbows right over our house. The sight of one of nature’s most beautiful gifts had an incredibly profound effect on my mood - and in that moment I finally felt hopeful. 🌈
.
May is Mental Health Awareness month. While I have always been an advocate of others seeking help when they need it, I’m not the best at admitting my own issues. I get caught up in life, neglect what’s really bothering me, and then things end up exploding in my face.
.
Here’s my reminder that it’s okay to ask for help - there is always hope - and that you are loved even if you don’t feel it. ♥️🫶🌈

Hugs for the one in the middle 🫶

Moving forward I’m entering this space with intention - something I always said I was doing, but never really did. My purpose here is to connect, to inspire, to share helpful content or make you feel some-thing. But have I stayed true to that purpose?
.
While I believe I did come here with every intention stated above, I was also staying way too long in the space. Looking for something that isn’t here. And ignoring what was right in front of me: my family, my friends, my dwindling mental health. 🫠
.
I’ve used social media as a place to hide from the reality of a lot… one big thing in particular that’s been happening to our family. My oldest girl needs all of our love and support these days as she goes through something pretty big, so stepping away from an app that consumed me like quicksand every time I tapped it open - it’s one of the best things I can do not just for me, but for her too.
.
I shared what’s going on on CHB with permission from my daughter, in the hopes that we can help other girls going through the same thing feel a little less scared or alone (how she has felt for quite some time). 🫶

Studies have shown that social media has a powerful effect on the brain, and using it activates the brain's reward center by releasing dopamine, a “feel-good chemical” linked to pleasurable activities such as eating, exercise and social interaction.

I sent out a newsletter this morning with a life lately update explaining more of what's going on over here - and in a nutshell, I'm burnt out. I keep saying I'm stepping back, trying to put less pressure on me + IG, but I never actually do it because let's face it: this platform is addictive.
.
I love sharing my musings on motherhood + mental health + life in general - but my relationship with THIS place has become very unhealthy. I rely on it way too much for that dopamine rush, and it's time I find something more substantial to give me the feel good feelings I need to be a happy person.
.
So what does this mean for me? I am not sure... maybe it's only opening the app with a purpose to post on stories + chat with you in DMs... or maybe it's not opening the app at all. I doubt it's the latter because I do love the community we've built here together ❤️
.
