Happy May 1st! I say this every single year and I will say it again: May is basically December. The packed calendar, the events stacked on top of events, the feeling that you need to be in three places at once — it’s all here, just with warmer weather and longer days. And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
If you follow along here or on Instagram, you know that our family treats May like a full season of its own. It’s one of those months where I find myself both completely overwhelmed and completely grateful at the same time. So let’s get into it — here’s our May 2026 family plans.
What’s On Our May Calendar
- TWO Dance Competitions
- Competition season is in full force and the girls have been working so hard! These weekends are long and loud, but I love every second of them. This is our full packing list!
- THE Mother’s Day getaway — It’s finally happening!
- Five years of saying “We should do a girls trip for Mother’s Day” and we are actually doing it. Me, my mom, my two sisters, and my sister-in-law — one night in Mystic. I cannot wait!
- Arbor’s preschool end-of-year events
- Field day AND the family carnival are both on the books. Spending time with Arbor at these events is genuinely one of my favorite things — she is fully in her element.
- The annual Church Bazaar
- A tradition that never gets old. If you’ve never been to a church bazaar (mini carnival) in Connecticut, you’re missing out on something very amazing. Fried dough, wine slushies, endless rides on things that spin and make me want to throw up… there’s something for everyone to love.
- All the family birthday celebrations
- May is birthday season around here and we take celebrating seriously.
- Visit from our favorite engaged couple
- Brandon’s best friend and his fiance are flying in from Arizona for a few days. Not only will they get to see their favorite ‘nieces’ at dance competition, but we will also be doing some more planning for their wedding in ITALY this September!
- Track Meets and a Chorus Concert – Annabelle is on the spring track team AND has a choral performance!
- Neighborhood Memorial Day Pool Opening Party

Writing it all out like that makes me feel equal parts excited and tired — but mostly excited. Aside from my Mother’s Day wishlist, I have been asking to be sent away for years. Every Father’s Day, while the Dads go on a full-day-golf-tournament, the Moms wrangle the kids and prep dinner for the Dads. It’s chaos – so the Mystic overnight trip alone has been a long time coming!
And as always, somewhere in between all of that I’ll be trying to soak up the slower moments too — the evenings outside, the windows open, that particular Connecticut spring smell that I could not put into words. Well not THAT smell, if you know what I mean, but the good smell. The Houston’s May 2026 family plans schedule is a lot, but it is also so, so good.
Here’s to a May that’s full but not frantic — and to showing up for every single bit of it. I’ll be sharing all of these moments here and on Instagram as the month unfolds, so stay close!
