This post is a few days late…
How Big?: 7 lbs even. 20.5 inches long – she is back to her birth weight!
Clothing Size?: Newborn
What/When is she eating?: I am breastfeeding little Miss A every 2-3 hours.
Baby Facts: Annabelle’s eyesight is pretty fuzzy – she can only see 8-12 inches in front of her face. She is light sensitive and can see three dimensions on objects. She is taking note of our facial expressions, and might even be memorizing some of the faces we make at her. Even if she doesn’t recognize our faces yet, she does seem to notice our voices – esp her Daddy’s.

Sleep?: Ohhh, sleep? How can we talk about sleep with a newborn? Annabelle doesn’t have a consistent sleep schedule yet (she is only 1 week old after all). Every night is different – sometimes she sleeps, sometimes she cries for a few hours. The poor little thing has some gas issues, so we have to burp her constantly and we are trying out some gas drops after she eats. We tried her in the pack-n-play at night, and I think it was too big and open for her little self. She has been sleeping in the rock-n-play – or my arms! If I wasn’t so afraid of having her in our bed at night, I would let her sleep right next to me. I definitely slept with her in my arms in bed for a few hours this week after she would not stop crying.
Movement?: I always know when Annabelle is hungry because she moves her head around like a little bird – they say that is called rooting. I call it her “imitation of a birdie.” She is also quite the wiggle worm! It is usually impossible to keep her swaddled. This does not surprise me one bit, since when she was in my belly she was constantly kicking, punching, and squirming around. She likes to sleep with her arms raised up by her head.
Milestones?: HER BIRTH!! It is crazy that only 10 days ago Annabelle was still in my belly and B, my Mom, and I were all sitting around talking about when she was finally going to grace us with her presence. Now she is here, and every time I look at her, I am filled with a flood of emotion. I never knew I could love someone so much!
Hardest Moment(s) of the Week: There were a few… but nothing that was that horrible. Seeing her get her first shot (Vitamin K) after she was born. Watching her get checked out at her first pediatrician’s appointment. Trying to figure out why she was screaming the first night we were in the hospital. Being so overtired that I started crying when she started crying from 10 – 3am our first night home.

I don’t think B and I would have faired as well as we did during our first week home with our little girl without the help we had from my Mom (Noni) and my sisters (Auntie Lizzie and Auntie Tine). They were SO amazing – changing lots of dirty diapers (Annabelle likes to give her Noni something to change), keeping me awake during late night feedings, and rocking baby while Mommy and Daddy caught up on sleep. The Aunties provided lots of comic relief when I was feeling exhausted and Noni was a lifesaver with our gassy baby more times than I could count. We are so thankful that they were able to fly down from Connecticut for the week, but today they go home. That means I’ll be shedding some tears with little Miss A this afternoon while B drives them to the airport.
I haven’t typed up her birth story yet… for some reason I am having trouble reliving it in words. Not that there was anything terribly wrong with my labor/delivery, it is just strange thinking of writing it all down. Hoping to get it done this week!
Nancy holtzman from Isis parenting both amazing twitter resources for mamas said all babies have gas issues in the beginning. They practice everything but digestion in the womb.
Really??!! Well babies should practice! Poor little thing kills me when she screams at night 🙁
I had my son 9 weeks ago, and have yet to type out the birth story. Take your time, its definitely something to savor. Share it when you feel like it. I think one reason I’ve yet to share mines is because I hold it so near and dear to my heart and I’m still savoring it. I’ll share it one day soon, but I still need some time. Like you, nothing went wrong or was overly eventful, I just still need time to reminisce on it.
Congratulations again and enjoy your new bundle of joy!
She is adorable!
