Today I embark on a seven day Adults Only Vacation with Brandon. First we head to Arizona for our college friends’ wedding, then we are off to sun, sand, and all-inclusive cocktails in Cancun. This will be the longest I have ever been away from the girls and I cannot lie, I’m sick to my stomach when I should be doing a celebratory jig. After the last couple of months parenting almost solo, I need a break… and not being with my husband on a regular basis has made me miss him oh-so-much.
My Mom and Dad will be taking care of Annabelle and Ailey. They’re going to have their work cut out for them – with Ailey rarely sleeping through the night, always wanting to stick her hands in the toilet, and having the temperament of a bi-polar T-Rex. Annabelle is a little easier to babysit, she just wants someone to feed her cookies, watch her perform ballet moves, and answer her questions. Trust me when I say both girls need a lot of attention and it’s hard to give it sometimes.
Yes, I will be bringing my breast pump on an Adults Only Vacation.
I cannot believe I will be bringing my breast pump on an Adults Only Vacation. I have to pump while I am away to maintain my milk supply, so it’s not like I will be able to completely forget I’m a Mom. I nursed Annabelle until she was 20 months old and I plan on doing the same for Ailey. Other than my four-times-a-day date with the breast pump, I have big plans to read, sip on something fancy, and maybe get a little suntan.
Packing for a Adults Only Vacation has been interesting. I think it is harder to pack outfits for myself than it is when I’m traveling with my daughters. I raided my sisters’ closets and bought a few things over the last few months – I am really excited to wear this bathing suit (under $20 from Abercrombie), this dress from Anthropologie, and this Havana hat from Amazon (stole this from a sister).
It looks like the temperature in Scottsdale will be over 100 every day, while in Mexico there is a daily chance for rain. Apparently Tropical Storm Katia is lingering off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, but it looks like Cancun will not be in her path. I’m sure Tropical Storm Caitlin will hit landfall around Sunday though… 3:45pm to be exact. I heard she is really pumped to only have to put sunscreen on herself for once.

I’m going to miss the girls terribly, but when it comes down to it – I need this Adults Only Vacaton! When you’ve gone away on a trip without your kids, do you find it easy or difficult to relax?

BOTH! We just took a weekend trip without the kids and although I was also pumping pumping pumping so I felt like I couldn’t truly relax, the sleeping in until 8am was amazing and having a few adult beverages 😉 You’ll have a great time friend! ENJOY!

I think the anticipation of leaving is harder than the actual leaving part. And then I have “fun” worst-case-scenario thoughts while en route, but once I’m at the destination, everything is fine and it becomes really clear why I’m doing it in the first place! I think once your butt actually touches down in AZ, you’ll be more than ready to cut loose!

My husband and I recently went away for the first time without our son and I cried 3x but other than that we had fun! Just couldn’t wait to get back to him towards the end, though. Ahh mom life 🙂

Tip – the hotel can store your breastmilk in a fridge or freezer if you need it! I travel for work and had to pump in oh-so-many places 🙂 If you need any pumping/traveling/etc tips, let me know!
And P.S. have a FANTASTIC time!
