Motherhood Tip #456: When life hands you lemons, use the opportunity to add a little zest to your life.
I knew if I posted about Ailey’s new sleep schedule I would be kicking myself in the butt for jinxing her progress. But I told the world yesterday how she has been sleeping through the night and she caught wind of my bragging. Last night was tough – filled with inconsolable screaming and hourly wake-ups. I woke up exhausted, but seeing her cheery disposition reminded me Ailey just had to refresh my memory that she is the captain on this ship.

As a Mom we have to be prepared for anything. Illness, sleepless nights, scary boo boos, refusals to eat dinner – the list goes on and on. We then have to take the up the back poop diaper situation and make it livable, survivable, and quickly recover from any crap we (literally) might end up with on our hands. I find talking about the insanity of parenthood is a great way to cope with what seems like a terrible experience. This morning my Mom and I laughed over Ailey dancing with her breakfast and the sleepless night became another distant memory we will soon forget.
Annabelle is another trickster. Charming and sweet, comical and loving, cross her and she can turn into a fire breathing dragon at the drop of a hat. We’ve been working on controlling her temper and tantrums a little each day, with incredible progress these last few weeks. Then yesterday, just like baby sister, she noticed I wasn’t tiptoeing around her as much and she had to remind me who’s boss.
So we are twirling into Tuesday… and remembering when life hands you lemons,in the form of tantrums and sleepless nights, think of it as a twirl of zest in your ice water (or vodka lemonade). Take a sip of your cool drink and remember, this too shall pass.
Ailey and Annabelle’s Lemon Bubble and Bishop Dress are from the sweetest children’s boutique, Sugar Plum Smocks. The premise behind this small business is sweet Southern style for your little sugar plums. All of their items are designed with a child in mind, so the lemon bubble and bishop dress are just perfect for my sassy girls. The attention to detail on their clothing (look at those flutter sleeves!), plus the high quality fabric and sturdy hems, make it perfect for any child.
