I’m so excited to share our experience wedding cake tasting in Destin, FL. I hope you enjoy all of these behind the scenes posts as we prepare for our destination wedding.
Mr. H is not a fan of cake… the only kind he truly likes is Red Velvet and he doesn’t even like to eat it for dessert. He is more of a cake-for-breakfast kind of guy. I am the one with the real sweet tooth – sugar makes me happy. I don’t particularly like chocolate unless there is peanut butter involved, so when asked by the two bakers we visited what kinds of cake I liked, I told her anything vanilla.
The first baker we met with was from Destin Wedding Cakes. She was a sweetheart, and brought us the cutest mini cake ever. One half was red velvet with cream cheese filling and cream cheese frosting, and the other half was french vanilla with strawberry filling and buttercream frosting. I dived right into the french vanilla side, and Mr. H took care of tasting the Red Velvet.
Beautiful design in the frosting – I love swirls.
To be honest… the cake tasting was just OK.
Both cakes reminded me of something from a grocery store – and there is nothing wrong with a Publix cake (most of the time they are quite tasty), but they do have that gritty, almost too sugary frosting and after you eat it your stomach feels heavy from all the fat and butter.

Fortunately we had another cake tasting set up at Bake My Day. Heidi was AWESOME! Not only did she actually draw out what my cake will look like, but she asked us a ton of questions about our wedding so she would know what we envisioned. As I described our theme, she started drawing and the end result was pretty much what I had pictured in my head. We are going to match the cake to the ribbons tied around the bouquets and centerpiece vases and the embroidery on my wedding dress. We chose a three tier basic white cake (which was so light and fluffy), a raspberry/pastry cream filling, and buttercream frosting. Heidi makes everything on the day of the wedding from scratch. The cake we tasted was by far the best cake I have ever had (aside from Mr. H and my fav red velvet in Atl). I can’t wait!!

I wonder if it’s a guy thing to not be into cake. Zane’s the same way. I on the other hand have a major sweet tooth. It’s so bad!
