Black Eiffel
For my brother’s wedding on July 7, 2000, we wound wire around the mouth of mason jars to make a hook and hung the jars from the picket fence around my parent’s backyard. Then we put teensy tealights in each glass and lit them when the sun set. It was beautiful… We used the mason jars because my brother was married at my Grandmother’s house (well it was ours by then) – and she used to can all sorts of jams, sauces, and vegetables in mason jars when I was a little kid. I like to think that the mason jars hanging around the yard at the wedding were a little piece of my Grandma Mary for everyone to enjoy.
After much thought, and no success finding a lot of vases in a style that I really liked, I decided that I am going to carry on the mason jar tradition and use them for our centerpieces. Mr. H’s Mawmaw is also an avid canner (you should see the stock of Zippy sauce and Jam we have in our apartment), so using mason jars as our vases we will all be reminded of not only Grandma Mary, but also Mr. H’s Mawmaw.
