**POST FROM A COUPLE DAYS AGO:
Hey there Bear followers! Sorry this post is a day late! I had a problem signing in yesterday but because of that i’ll do two posts today!:)
So Saturday’s post (post 1 for today!) is on my recent trip to Sephora. I shared with ya’ll that I moved to Mexas (that’s where Texas meets Mexico or where I live right now, Mcallen, TX) a few months ago and initially I thought, oh my goodness! My life is over…there’s no way they’re going to have good shopping in a border town 10 miles from Mexico! But much to my surprise, I was SO wrong! With the exception of a good cooking store (like Williams Sonoma) Mcallen, TX has AMAZING shopping! In fact, our mall, La Plaza Mall is the #1 grossing mall (per square footage) in the U.S.! One thing I was super excited about when I got here was the fact that they had a Sephora! I didn’t even have a Sephora back home (even though I hear that now that i’ve left, they got one! They MUST have been working with my husband on that timing…). Sephora is literally my favorite store in the world! I could spend all day in there and have been in love with it since 2003 when I got to go to one in Chicago…WAY before any of my friends even knew what Sephora was! 😉 Recently I went in and spent some time with one of their fabulous makeup artists looking for a totally mod pink lipstick that would complement some of my new retro shift dresses. After about an hour in the store I decided on the Yves Saint laurent (YVS) Rouge Volupte’ in Lingerie Pink. This lipstick is definitely a splurge at $34 and I don’t want you to get the wrong impression! I by no means think that this is a product that normal housewife gals like ME have a lot of…but I am of the opinion that I’d rather have a few GOOD products that last a long time and look amazing, than a lot of so-so products. So back to the YVS lipstick, this product is a DREAM! It is so incredibly creamy and thick. I didn’t try any of the brighter/darker shades on but I assume they are the same as the pink I went with- there is nothing shear about this lipstick–it is PURE color. Oh and it even has a little mirror on the top of the tube so that if you are in a pinch (perhaps in a busy bathroom at a baseball game this summer for example:) you can apply a perfect pout. Even though it is a little pricier, I totally recommend this product if you are planning on buying it in a color that will be a staple in your cosmetic wardrobe. I always wear a pink! I have been known once or twice a year to pull out the MAC Russian Red, which was designed for Madonna’s ‘Blonde Ambition’ tour (you know…just in case that ever comes up on Jeopardy, “Makeup for $1000 Alex!”)–but most of the time I am in either in the shearest or glossiest of pinks.
Here is a picture of what the YVS shade looked like on me:
LOVE the color…do NOT love having a picture that close up of my face…but hopefully this gives you a good idea on just how thick and colorful this lipstick is |
And here is a picture of what I left the store with:
YVS lipstick in lingerie pink and Stella McCartney’s STELLA rollerball set My second purchase was the Stella McCartney rollerball perfume set. STELLA has been my signature scent since 2005, ever since I smelled it in a magazine ad. I promptly begged Mr. Cook to buy it for me, it’s romantic to get perfume from the hubby, right?! So normally I would buy the regular old bottle of STELLA and be on my way but for some reason the rollerball set was calling my name on this particular visit. The idea of having 4 individual ampules of my favorite perfume (which has the loveliest notes of rose, peony, and amber) that I could tuck into my purse, gym bag, suitcase (hello?! Airport Security friendly…HOLLA!;), AND makeup drawer was very appealing. So the rollerball was the way I went and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase. Now this brings me to my questions… This post made me realize, I am a very “signature” type person. I always wear a pink hue on my lips and always smell like STELLA. Do you have a signature scent? So you always wear a particular color on your lips? I think having a unique signature is a great way to define your look. What do you think? |
