I am officially a Nanny! After surviving my first day with the Dad home (he was basically teaching me all the tricks of the trade) today is my first day on my own with the boys. They are 5 and 7 – both so smart and cute – I think that the next six months are going to be great with them. I am going to be working with the 5 year old on prepping for Kindergarten in the mornings before he heads to pre-K. Yesterday we practiced counting and identifying words that started with a certain letter. It was so rewarding to see how proud of himself he was after counting 25 stars all on his own AND writing “25” next to them.
My interview for the Teaching Residency program is on Feb 6th and I hope that working with the little guy will be something the interviewers find impressive. I know that the program is competitive and considering I have never had any formal elementary education classes, I think this will be a great experience to put on my resume.
Working a 9 hour day (plus 30 min travel to and from the house) was also great. Not that I didn’t like catching up on my favorite TV shows On Demand last week, it is just a much better feeling at night knowing I put in a full day of paid work. The boys had blue box Mac n Cheese and hot dogs for lunch so I was craving some adult friendly baked Macaroni and Cheese. On my way home from work I stopped to pick up some shredded cheese and broccoli and whipped up an awesome bake before my hubs came home from his long day (check out my cooking blog for the recipe later this week).
I was running on excitement from a wonderful first day of work – and I am sure the rest of this week I will come home happy and ready to cook. However, I am thinking that after a few weeks of nannying I am going to come home and want to do nothing but sit on the couch! With that being said, I think I need to christen my crock pot/slow cooker sometime soon!

I think thats so exciting getting to be a Nanny. I would love to quit my job and open up a daycare… but I also want to quit and open up a sandwich shop.. so nothing is for sure. Ha ha jk.
Im going to be breaking out my crock pot for the first time this week!! Tyler’s fav food is Pot roast (gross) and he didnt think I would ever make it for him because I dont like red meat. So Im going to prove him wrong!
P.S. I am not lying at all about this, but below me, where I have to type the word verification in.. the word is pooman. Really?
