Sharing my February 2025 Life Lately update, a monthly recap of what we have been doing and what is to come on Caitlin Houston Blog.
Life Lately / February 2025
It’s quite comical how February feels like it was so short in comparison to the 80 days of January. Even though it flew by, it may have been the coldest and iciest month we have ever experienced. Cabin fever really set in here as we were unable to even go for a walk to the mailbox without frostbite or slipping on the sidewalk. Thankfully, the freeze broke this week and everyone – from the neighbors to the stink bugs – woke up from our winters’ nap.
As we approach March, I am noticing the amount of daily darkness is fading as the sun stays up a little bit longer. I always enjoy my dark mornings, but the evenings have been getting to me. It’s hard to stay motivated to do anything when it feels like nighttime begins at 5pm. I know I can speak for the world when I say we are all looking forward to more day light (and warmer temps).
February 2025 in Photos
I love writing Life Lately posts to recap memorable moments so that I can read about them sometime later in life. As you know – it’s hard to remember every little thing! During February my family finally kicked the sickness that kept us trapped at home for so long.
With our newfound freedom we were able to celebrate my parents’ birthdays, venture to a fun cornhole fundraiser for the middle school, and meet at the park for a neighborhood snow day. Arbor went bowling for the first time, Ailey drew the Ninja Turtles, Annabelle made lasagna, and we had a family dinner with my niece. Arbor and I made Valentine’s crafts, we went to our favorite restaurant Christo’s twice, and hit up an Islanders hockey game.

Other notable moments in February 2025 were the discovery of the Lange Blowdryer Brush (WOAH!), sampling the delicious Thistle Vegan food delivery, and making a spring garland for my parents’ kitchen window.
What’s on My Bookshelf in February 2025
- “Crescent City: House of Flame and Shadow” by Sarah J Maas – The third book in the CC series is the BEST of them all. I could not put it down once it started. COMPLETE
- “Quicksilver” by Callie Hart – I have 11 chapters remaining on my audiobook. It’s been difficult to listen to books lately with how much Arbor has to say 24/7. READING
- “Zodiak Academy: The Reckoning” by Susanne Valenti – The third book in the ZA series is similar to all the rest, still very juvenile with some adult language and spicy bits. It’s an easy listen about all of the magic you could imagine. READING
- “Throne of Glass” by Sarah J Maas – Book one of the TOG series is going to be a quick read. I love the wittiness and storyline, as well as the anticipation of what’s to come. It’s very different from ACOTAR and CC with the lack of magic and I’m enjoying it!
What I Am Watching in February 2025
I’m trying very hard to spend less time in front of the screen and more time in a book (or painting) this year. I find that my brain feels both more active and relaxed when I’m not binge watching a show. With that being said, I am being more selective when I sit down with a remote. Here’s what I’ve been watching (and will be watching):
- The Fallen – love fantasy romance novels? This adaptation doesn’t have the best actors, but it’s entertaining.
- School Spirits – Season 2 is good so far, interested to see how it ends (and if there is room for season 3).
- Sweethearts – Amazon Prime’s high school reality show about relationships before college was not as juicy as Laguna Beach but mindless enough for a brain break.
- *White Lotus – new season on deck
- *Yellowjackets – new season on deck
Just 4 Moms in February 2025
Looking for an update on the Just 4 Moms Podcast? We had FOUR new episodes go live this month about early dinnertime, balancing time between kids, hobbies as we get older, and our idea of healthy.

What I’m Looking Forward To Next Month
March holds the promise for warmer temps, an increase in ‘sun time’, and more opportunities to be outdoors. I hope to take Arbor outside as much as possible since we have felt so trapped by the weather. The big sisters have their first dance competition and I cannot wait! Something else I am looking forward to is a spring break getaway to Cape Cod. It will be our first trip to our favorite place in the spring. Looking for a rental home on the Cape?
